THIS GUIDEBOOK is an open educational resource for current and future Amplify podcasters, and anyone interested in how to approach academic podcasting. What is academic podcasting? And why might you want to start an academic podcast in the first place? Academic podcasting is the communication of scholarly knowledge through the digital medium of podcasting. Podcasting can take on many forms, including interviews, audio documentary, fiction, or experimental sound forms. Podcasting can be a radical, open, and subversive way of creating publicly accessible and community engaged scholarship. We hope you’ll find this guidebook useful in the classroom, in the studio, and even at home, alongside your cup of morning coffee. Think of this as an invitation into the world of academic podcasting that you can return to time and time again throughout the development of your podcast. While this guidebook is far from exhaustive, we hope it will offer you a selection of best practices, templates, and resources that will benefit seasoned producers and podcast newcomers alike

When using media for presentations, even if it is an openly licensed resource, we still need to give proper attribution to the creator. With Creative Commons licenses, attribution is actually a requirement of use.

A commonly accepted attribution format in the open community is the TASL acronym. It's a bit less specific than APA or MLA format, but every attribution should have the following components and answer each question in italics. Where possible, link to the original components and do include any additional information if it feels relevant or useful.

Open pedagogy is the practice of engaging with students as creators of information rather than simply consumers of it. It's a form of experiential learning in which students demonstrate understanding through the act of creation. The products of open pedagogy are student created and openly licensed so that they may live outside of the classroom in a way that has an impact on the greater community.

LiDA100: Learning in a Digital Age
Unrestricted Use

In a technology-driven environment, we assume most people are comfortable learning online. The ubiquity of digital communication, automated assistance, and constant connectivity support this assumption, but many of us lack the skills needed to navigate digital resources and technologies in an academic setting. Learning in a Digital Age (LiDA) is a credit-bearing course designed to improve digital learning literacies for higher education and help learners gain more value from open educational resources (OER).

In this course, you will develop the digital and learning literacies to maximize their learning in a contemporary digital learning environment for higher education. You will develop the academic skills to discern the credibility, accuracy, and integrity of open access resources available on the Internet and corresponding digital tools to research, analyze, and present information for academic purposes.

You will also develop competence in a range of digital tools, including social media, communication and collaboration tools, and publishing tools to support learning in contemporary society. This will include knowledge of copyright, open licensing, media literacy, and digital citizenship.

This course is offered concurrently in partnership with OERu. You are more than welcome to work through all four sections at your own pace, but you may be able to interact with more students if you follow the schedule used by OERu and their community of learners.

This course includes the following sections:

Digital Skills for Online Learning (LiDA101)
Digital Citizenship (LiDA102)
Open Education, Copyright, and Open Licensing in a Digital World
Critical Media Literacy and Associated Digital Skills (LiDA104)

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program developed by Microsoft forWindows, MacOS, Android, and iOS, and is part of the Office suiteof software. It features calculation, graphing tools, pivot tables, and amacro programming language called Visual Basic for Applications. Excelis used widely for many financially-related activities from simplequarterly forecasts to full corporate annual reports. Excel is also usedfor common information organization like contact lists and inventorytracking. Finally, Excel helps researchers perform statistical analysistasks like variance analysis, chi-square testing, and charting complexdata.I’ve used Excel for both business and personal use for more than 20years. For the Cochise College Center for Lifelong Learning class, I startedwith an “open source” book since it is available free of charge and Icould modify it to meet the objectives of this class.Beginning Excel by Noreen Brown, Barbara Lave, Julie Romey,Mary Schatz, Diane Shingledecker. I found it at Open OregonEducational Resources, https://ecampusontario.pressbooks.pub/beginningexcel/excel.pdf
