The Open Nursing Education (ONE) Summit took place on February 27-28, 2024. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s (THECB) Division of Digital Learning and OpenStax at Rice University have worked with nursing educators across Texas and the nation to create eight peer-reviewed, freely available nursing textbooks, aligned with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Essentials Curriculum. The event provided a first look at the textbooks. Over 1200 colleagues participated in the Summit to celebrate this collaborative achievement and explore innovative ways to adopt and adapt the openly licensed materials to meet the needs of their institutions. Featured speakers included industry experts and nursing education leaders, instructors, and administrators who discussed critical issues in nursing education and how to address them through the power of open education. Session recordings are now available if you missed the Summit. Sign up for email updates on the nursing textbooks by vising OpenStax. |
The Open Nursing Education Summit featured 12+ sessions on pertinent topics in nursing education. These topics ranged from OpenStax and the THECB’s upcoming free nursing education textbook series to effective NCLEX writing, implementation, and student support. Attendees had the opportunity to learn directly from prominent nursing education leaders, authors, administrators, and instructors. |
| The Open Nursing Education (ONE) Summit was a fully free, virtual conference co-sponsored by OpenStax and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Over the course of two days, industry experts and nursing education leaders, instructors, and administrators discussed critical issues in nursing education and how we can address them. Additionally, OpenStax authors and subject matter experts shared how to effectively incorporate openly licensed nursing resources — like the THECB and OpenStax’s eight-textbook nursing series — into your course or program. These free, peer-reviewed, open educational resources cover topics ranging from clinical nursing skills to pharmacology to nutrition for nurses. Visit YouTube to view the Summit Recording Playlist.
