Français interactif is a unique, award-winning 1st-year French curriculum used by learners all over the world. This assignment asks students to answer various formatting questions related to MLA style. Largely because of the horrific videorecorded murder of George Floyd while under the restraint of four Minneapolis police officers, citizens around the world are feeling a renewed urgency to take action to recognize and act against racism. This Teach-In is designed to give you an opportunity to learn a bit more about the psychology of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination, the racial inequities and inequalities that exist in society and in policing, your own biases, and about the societies and organizations working to remedy these inequalities and inequities.

Here is briefly what the Teach-In involves:

Reading: You will read part of a social psychology textbook on social categorization and stereotyping, and two relatively short and approachable academic journal articles.
Watching: You will watch several brief TED-type lecture talks about the topic, and a debate on the topic "Policing is Racially Biased," presenting informed arguments both in favor of that idea and against it.
Doing: You will experience how psychologists measure one aspect of bias -- implicit bias.
Writing: You will write two short reflection-style papers, and write journal entries about your feelings and experience.

This resource illustrates how the worksheet might be used with two suggested readings. The first example features a nonfiction essay discussing the complex opinions around choosing disability through preimplantation genetic diagnosis. With this text, students will encounter questions about vocabulary, tone, argumentative reasoning, types of evidence, and more. The second example features an excerpt from the book The Devil’s Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea, which vividly recounts a desolate desert. In this example, students will analyze the purpose of devices such as allusions, diction, and imagery. An instructor has the option of using either example or customizing the blank worksheet to their own purposes.

The textbook and public Canvas course comprise an openly licensed curriculum focused on developing Intercultural Communicative Competence. The four units invite learners to engage with culturally rich print, audio and video texts and use the target language to investigate, explain and reflect on the relationship between contemporary Turks’ socio-cultural practices, products and perspectives. Each unit addresses a different aspect of society: family, love and marriage, the environment, and art and politics, and contains the following components:

- contextualized grammar lessons,
- videos of Turks speaking about their lives and their country,
- activities that hone language skills while raising awareness about contemporary Turkish society,
