21st Century Queer Fashion Brands

CC BY-NC-ND
Rating
0.0 stars

In the early part of the 21st century, several LGBTQIA+ focused clothing brands emerged on the market. The purpose of this project is to document the history of each brand using the oral history method. We conducted oral histories with 24 brands with questions ranging from their own personal histories to how and why they started the brand. We are interested in the lives of the individuals who founded the brands in addition to the entire story of each brand from idea development to today so that way these stories can be a documented as an important part of fashion and retail history. We purposefully make these oral history transcripts available to the community in order to move research beyond the walls of the academy and make knowledge accessible to everyone.

These anatomical illustrations were created by Biological and Pre-Medical Illustration (BPMI) students that had previously attended the course, BIOL351: Comparative Chordate Anatomy. The students worked closely with the lab instructor to develop detailed anatomical illustrations of the specimens studied in the lab, which allowed the students to showcase their work. The images were then incorporated in the lab handbook for the course and made more widely available as open educational resources.

The laboratory content of the course is divided into six topics, each with a unique focus. Each topic is presented in two sessions: (1) a case-study session and (2) a laboratory session. These sessions meet in succession and are designed so that focus topics are introduced in the case-study and extended in the laboratory. In case study, the relevance of chemistry to the focus topic is developed and experimental strategies and methods are discussed and demonstrated. In the laboratory, students conduct experiments, acquire data, and analyze results to further their understanding of the selected chemical systems. Please check the course syllabus for the specific dates of the case study and laboratory meetings and check MyUI for your meeting time and room assignment information. MyUI is available at https://myui.uiowa.edu/my-ui/home.page. The course syllabus can be obtained on the CHEM:1120 course web page which can be accessed through Iowa Courses Online (ICON) available at http://icon.uiowa.edu.

The National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) is an industry, state, and federal partnership that has long played a central role in bettering the health of US poultry and improving the competitiveness of the US poultry and egg industries.[1] The objective of this communication is to report the findings of a case study of the NPIP undertaken in 2018. The primary aims of the study included seeking a more in-depth understanding of the NPIP, clarifying how NPIP differs from and complements the Secure Food Supply Plans for the US poultry and egg industries, and assessing the needs and potential applications for establishing a similar program for the US pork industry (e.g., “US Swine Health Improvement Plan”).
