The Recruitment Student Success Mentor role serves as a liaison to higher education resources and advocates a college-going culture among high school students. Establishes, manages, and visits a higher education resource center at a designated high school/college campus(es). Provides practical assistance, mentorship, and support services to high school students and their families. This is an educative role requiring the Student Success Mentor to create and conduct continuous info-sessions, presentations, and “how-to” workshops related to common college-going procedures (including on a virtual setting). Attends higher education trainings and community events to promote post-secondary education and/or stay up to date with higher education procedures.

DELIVERY FORMAT: The program has a hybrid format.

PROGRAM SCALE: Large-scale (reaches more than 25 percent of its intended target population)

The Rising Lion program takes place in the summer before the start of students' first year. Participation in the program is by invitation only. Participating students take 2 summer classes and move to campus early in an effort to help ease their transition into college.

How to Enroll: Eligible students will receive an invitation to apply via your student applicant portal. The deadline to accept the invitation to join the program and complete a FAFSA or TASFA (if applicable) is June 1.

The Student Success Mentoring program is designed to support all students in making a successful and enjoyable transition to the TAMUK campus by creating educational and supportive relationships designed to direct students to be successful. The Mentors support students by sharing skills and positive habits, guiding students to resources and opportunities on campus, and promoting positive decision making. Javelinas have the opportunity to meet with a mentor in one-to-one and small group sessions. Student Success Mentors strive to promote academic excellence and student success at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and guide students on their journey from first-year Javelinas to Javelinas for Life. The program’s goals are to support the transition process of all students to A&M Kingsville; increase the student's connection with the university; provide informal academic, career/professional and personal guidance; and connect Javelinas with campus resources.

The modules posted below aim to provide digital resources for students and instructors. Providing students on-demand digital, multimedia, open-access resources which can be watched repeatedly at convenient times can serve as one path to improving student success in introductory physics courses The modules have been created for each topic covered in calculus-based introductory physics courses. Each module includes:Videos reviewing the laws and concepts, and videos with step-by-step problem solving providing students with additional aid in learning the material. (i) Review Videos summarize major topics after students had encountered them in class and highlight their application to common and significant problems. This resource incorporates explanations, derivations, and demonstrations to illustrate a concept; (ii) Problem-Solving Videos present detailed solutions to multi-step questions which students might encounter when working through textbook problems or on major summative assessments. This in-depth approach was structured to guide students in improving their problem-solving skills and techniques, as well as address common mistakes. More than one hundred videos have been created for different types of learners. This is a resource for both students and instructors.Textbook-independent homework problem sets that could be implemented via LMS. The homework has a mix of multiple-choice and free-response problems aiming to develop student critical thinking. Detailed solutions to all problems are provided so that the students can compare their results with the solution, or an instructor can understand what was intended for the solution if modification of the problem is desired. This is a resource for both instructors and students. Video demonstration experiments for each topic that will allow the instructors around the State of Texas to bring physics experiments to their classrooms (instructor resource). The videos merely show the experiment taking place without any explanation of the underlying physics. This gives the instructor complete freedom to tailor the explanation to their class. A text with a brief description of the experiments is provided.
