The Academic Achievers Program (AAP) was established in 1994. The program's mission is to recruit underrepresented students and increase retention and graduation rates. Members of the Academic Achievers Program are provided with an annual scholarship, tutoring, mentoring, time-management skill sessions, career guidance, and leadership skills. The Academic Achievers Program's support services are crucial to the students' ability to remain in college and successfully graduate from the University of Houston.

Transmountain ECHS/EPCC strive to encourage and recruit students in the target populations of At-Risk, students with disabilities, low socio-economic, Emergent Bilinguals (EB), minorities and historically under-served communities. Indeed El Paso ISD's and EPCC's demographics are well-represented in these areas. Campus Leadership Teams meet regularly to brainstorm, plan and implement strategies focused on recruiting target-population students. Additionally, TMECHS staff works with all district middle schools to ensure dissemination of open communication and accurate information to all students. TMECHS wants students to know that they all can, and should, apply to TMECHS and have the opportunity to earn an Associates Degree during high school.

The Connect Mentorship Program (known by students as Connect) is a year-long mentorship program aimed at retaining students of color at SMU. The program has two parts: the Connect Institute and Peer Mentorship. Connect helps incoming students of color become effective, successful, and engaged members of SMU through peer mentoring. Mentors help incoming students develop personally and academically by introducing them to various resources, learning opportunities, and co-curricular experiences offered on campus.

The Career and Technical Education Robo Recruiter was designed as an outreach mechanism to attract prospective students for CTE Programs, specifically prospective students in special populations and nontraditional gender fields. The goal is to enhance awareness of Associate of Applied Science Degree program offerings at the Blinn College District while providing labor market information regarding these career fields. The Robo Recruiter has an engaging interface which students can select the career option they want to explore. Labor market information regarding the career and training available at Blinn will be provided through the interface. The students will also have the option to provide contact information and connect with a Blinn advisor directly from the Robo Recruiter. The Robo Recruiter interface is held by a mannequin dressed in attire representing a CTE field.

ACC makes childcare scholarships available to low-income student parents. The core features of the childcare scholarship program are 1) case management and 2) parent choice. Students who accept a childcare scholarship must agree to participate in intensive case management with a Student Advocate to help with clarity of goals and decisionmaking, referrals to additional supports and on-going problem-solving and personal support. Students who receive the scholarship may select the childcare provider of their choice. ACC arranges for payment directly with the provider. Students must pay the difference between the amount of their scholarship and the total cost of care charged by the provider. The goals of the childcare scholarships are 1) to improve the semester to semester persistence rates of student parents and 2) to improve the graduation rates of student parents. Funding for the program come from ACC's Perkins grant and from institutional sources.

The College, Career, & Financial Health (CCFH) outreach program was created to encourage and assist with postsecondary enrollment for elementary through secondary school students in Victoria College’s service area. The CCFH Coordinator is responsible for facilitating a pipeline to postsecondary enrollment from a very early age.Through various financial literacy sessions, students are able to explore career and college opportunities, as well as identify smart financial habits and options for future goals. Specifically, at the high school level, the CCFH Coordinator works diligently to increase the percent of service area secondary students who complete the ApplyTexas application, submit their FAFSA, and complete at least one scholarship application before high school graduation.

For the past year, San Jacinto College has redesigned our onboarding and advising processes to include a focus on holistic student supports, appreciative advising and a newly established division of student support services. As we continue the work of enhancing how we support our students and the technologies used during such supports, this project will allow us to build up our efforts to integrate holistic and appreciative student support. The scope of this project includes:
1. The professional production of informational videos to support our redesign and advising efforts.
2. The development of outreach materials to create awareness around Mental Health, Accessibility Services, Food Markets and Student Engagement.
3. A site visit to research other institutions' advising and student support services model. This visit and study will produce a more intentional collaborative experience between our advisors and students leading to an increase in student retention and success rates.

The families of first-generation college students play a key role in their students’ success. All incoming first-generation students and their families are invited to attend the UT Dallas First-Generation Family Orientation. To promote the orientation, UT Dallas mails postcard invitations and first-generation-specific new student guidebooks, that include access to an online Spanish language version, to invitees. The materials provide advice on how to interpret important dates on the academic calendar, descriptions of language found in course syllabi, and helpful tips for navigating resources, and a page of First-Generation Student Support Network member contacts in key campus departments. First-Generation Family Orientation content includes presentations by a variety of campus departments, a discussion regarding UT Dallas culture and insights about what their student can expect, greater explanations of some University policies and processes, more information about University resources with insights about why they matter and how to use them, and critical steps to ensure that students efficiently transition through each semester and maximize opportunities. Content is framed to reinforce the role of families in student academic and social success and their value in cultivating student belonging, wellbeing, and resilience. The First-Generation Family Orientation is hosted primarily via YouTube to ensure maximum accessibility with the multi-language closed captioning options. During the orientation, families can ask current first-generation students, parents of former UT Dallas students, and bilingual staff questions. The desired outcomes of First-Generation Family Orientation include attendees feeling better equipped to support their scholars, increased familiarity with campus resources, and increased comfort approaching the university for assistance.

Lone Star College-North Harris Mi Casa Es Su Casa (CASA) Empowering Hispanic Students to Connect, Acclimate, Succeed, and Achieve

Initially funded by a Title V grant for Hispanic-Serving Institutions from the US Department of Education, CASA is Connecting students to the campus community, Acclimating them to the rigors of academic life, helping them Succeed academically, and preparing them to Achieve and compete in college and beyond. The program guides students through the four CASA phases through three initiatives. Information Technology Enhanced Multidisciplinary Academic Learning Lounges (iMALLS) and the Center for Academic Advising and Transition (CAST) are designed to connect students to resources and opportunities to improve academic preparedness while Meaningfully Aligned Targeted Curriculum for Hispanic Students (MATCH) ensures students are receiving best-fit instruction based on proven methods. These three initiatives encompass twelve activities to engage students in research-based programs that facilitate in students a sense of belonging, influence, competence and efficacy. MATCH activities have assisted in increasing the number of students graduating with a degree or certificate within three years from a baseline of 14% to 26%. Hispanic completion was 25%. CAST tutoring and advising activities assisted in increasing the three-year transfer rate of students from a baseline of 6% to 12%. Hispanic transfer was 11%. iMALL activities have assisted in increasing the fall-to-fall persistence of FTIC fulltime students by 7% over the 2014 baseline of 50%. Hispanic student persistence was 61%.

Owl Access seeks to improve the transition experience of first-generation college students and their families. Our goal is to support first-generation college students by building a network of community members and to encourage the positive self-identification of those who are the first in their families to attend college and/or students from low-income communities. Owl Access will be a 2.5-day college transition program that focuses on providing first-generation and/or low-income new students a head start on college adjustment. Throughout Owl Access, students will connect with faculty, staff, and peer leaders to help them understand how to navigate Rice, and their college experience, including topics such as academics, financial aid, social engagement, health and wellbeing, and other on-campus opportunities. Owl Access will also introduce families to our campus resources and provide families with the information and tools they need to support their student’s success at Rice. The Recruitment Student Success Mentor role serves as a liaison to higher education resources and advocates a college-going culture among high school students. The Seahawk Closet addresses any needs that may exist among presently enrolled students. The Closet has a variety of resources ranging from school supplies to hygiene products, contributed by campus community members and employees. Students receive a variety of products at no cost. We hope that by giving students these resources, we can alleviate the strain of needing to seek financial assistance to acquire such items. Somos Unidos - One Word Program

The Somos Unidos “ One Word Project" is a student success initiative designed to accelerate mentor training and knowledge to support first-generation students and positively increase student retention and graduation rates. In partnership with the UIW FLIGHT Mentor Center, this project further expands UIWs ability to improve outcomes for first-generation students through curricular and co-curricular programming as well as professional development for faculty and staff. The intent is to create a sense of belonging for our students and methods to help students develop confidence and their own voices, ultimately strengthening retention rates amongst first-generation students. The Somos Unidos “ One Word Project seeks to raise the UIW retention rate to its institutional goal of 75% and close the gap each semester between these underserved populations and all other groups combined.

The most important services most helpful for first generation students were identified as celebration events, advising support, and financial aid support.
A low awareness of support services for first generation students indicates the need for opportunities for the institution to increase efforts to help first generation students know what supports are available.

Our St. Thomas Promise is a huge opportunity allowing eligible students to attend at no cost and will change their lives and financial situations! The program is right in line with the University of St. Thomas Catholic mission.

Eligibility Requirements

Incoming, first-time college students with a 3.4 or higher GPA* who are from families with annual incomes of $50,000 or less may take advantage of this offer; OR
Incoming transfer students with a college GPA of 3.5 of higher who are from families with annual incomes of $50,000 or less may take advantage of this offer.

Eligible students must be a Texas resident and must file the FAFSA form and must be eligible for federal and state aid. UST’s FAFSA Code is 003654. This St. Thomas Promise of free tuition also includes free tutorial services plus a student success coach to help ensure a successful transition to college.

The St. Thomas Promise is renewable for up to four years, providing family income remains in the same qualifying range.

Student Success Services (SSS) is a TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program’s mission is to help eligible students succeed at Weatherford College (WC), graduate and/or transfer to a university to complete a degree. SSS participants are provided personal academic advising, individual development plans, tutoring and supplemental instruction, financial aid assistance, personal counseling, career advising, transfer assistance through campus tours and cooperative advising with transfer admissions offices, and cultural enrichment. All of these services are provided to WC students at no cost to the student. To be eligible, students must be enrolled at WC, be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., and meet one or more of the following requirements: have a family income within federal low-income guidelines, be a first-generation student, or a student with a documented disability.

DELIVERY FORMAT: The program has a hybrid format.
