STEPP -- Scaffolded Training Environment for Physics Problem-solving -- is an environment created by a multidisciplinary research team for students in introductory physics courses to learn physics concepts, modeling and computational thinking in a synergistic manner.

In STEPP, students and teachers build physics simulations based on problems in their own curriculum using a modeling tool based on finite-state machines (state diagrams).

Three STEPP Modules on 1D kinematics, 2D kinematics and Newton’s laws of motion, and have been built and field tested at high schools and the University of Texas at Dallas.

STEPP Modules are:
Carefully scaffolded for novice learners
Multi-representational
Grounded in research on teaching and learning of physics

STEPP Modules are a web app ready to run in a web browser on a laptop or a desktop computer.
