The Eagle's Nest Food Pantry was established to assist with food insecurities for current students enrolled in courses at Central Texas College. The pantry offers non-perishable food items as well as limited toiletry and baby supplies. Food pick-ups are weekly and students must complete an application for processing purposes on their first visit. No student is turned away. We are able to service as many students as we have a need for.

Dual credit biology course is a course that is taught on our high school campus, Arlington College and Career High School. Our campus is an early college high school partnered with the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus. Offering a dual credit biology course on our campus allows our students to take the course in a familiar environment and to easily access extra supports provided by the instructor. The instructor, an embedded dual credit faculty member, meets all SACS requirements to teach the course but is employed by the ISD. She teaches high school science courses as well as dual credit biology.
The goal and objective for offering this course on our campus is to help our students establish a love for science and to continue to pursue courses and career pathways in STEM fields, which is a high needs employment field in Texas.
Our target population are first generation, low income, high school students (dual credit students) who sometimes need a great deal of support and encouragement to help them believe they can achieve. Our dual credit embedded biology instructor, Jennifer Meador, is able to provide the perfect balance of support and rigor that enables students to learn the college readiness skills required to help them succeed. We have seen a large increase in the amount of students who want to pursue STEM careers after taking her course. The impact she has on their progress is creating generational change that will help to further build a talent strong Texas.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: In both the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters, 96 percent of students enrolled in the embedded dual credit biology course successfully completed the course, earning a C or higher.

Embedded tutoring brings the tutor to the students. The tutors are present for lectures, so they know exactly how the teacher wants the students to attempt their problems. Students are more engaged when in groups and start to become a part of a group. Research has shown that students who feel they belong to a community, tend to stay. Students that need tutoring, but don't go, often say that they are either embarrassed to ask for help, insecure about their intellect, or afraid that others who see them might portray them as dumb. Embedded tutors address all of these concerns by sending the tutor to the students instead of the other way around.

The Engaged Learning Institute (ELI) is a robust by-faculty, for-faculty cohort-based program that cultivates the uncovering, sharing, and implementation of engaged learning practices to impact student success. It focuses on transforming student learning in and beyond the instructional space, employing relevant technology to facilitate engaging, inclusive, and accessible student-centered teaching across all modalities. Institute participants share their experiences and build on their expertise through practice, self-reflection, discussion, and redesign.

The Engaged Learning Institute frontloads a contextual framework focused on three core lenses:

ENGAGEMENT is the broad lens through which ELI focuses content to encourage faculty to think about how to intentionally create environments and facilitate opportunities that help students to become world-ready, emphasizing Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) core skills. The ELI is centered on four dimensions of engaged learning suggested by the Associate of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U): classroom, multidisciplinary and contextual, civic and social, and technological and experiential. Engaged learning strategies center students as active participants in their own learning, maintaining essential focus on learners so that they may take ownership of their learning processes.

UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING serves ELI faculty as a framework grounded in neuroscience to advance consideration of ways to intentionally build in multiple means of content representation, skill demonstration, and overall engagement throughout course curriculum and delivery to ensure activation of brain networks essential to student learning.

CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE TEACHING offers ELI faculty a framework to help us craft inclusive environments that honor the whole student. ELI actively works to break down assumptions that Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) is reductionist and only about race. ELI supports achievement Title V to facilitate student access and success, specifically focused on developing and enhancing culturally competent faculty and staff through professional development.

For the past year, San Jacinto College has redesigned our onboarding and advising processes to include a focus on holistic student supports, appreciative advising and a newly established division of student support services. As we continue the work of enhancing how we support our students and the technologies used during such supports, this project will allow us to build up our efforts to integrate holistic and appreciative student support. The scope of this project includes:
1. The professional production of informational videos to support our redesign and advising efforts.
2. The development of outreach materials to create awareness around Mental Health, Accessibility Services, Food Markets and Student Engagement.
3. A site visit to research other institutions' advising and student support services model. This visit and study will produce a more intentional collaborative experience between our advisors and students leading to an increase in student retention and success rates.

MCC’s Title V grant project, First Year Focus: Developing Academic and Co-Curricular Student Support Structures to Improve First Year Outcomes puts into place innovative support structures designed to create enriching academic opportunities that foster success for MCC’s diverse student population. These activities include restructuring the first year experience to address student resilience, integrating and building academic support structures to promote persistence, and cultivating student engagement and inclusiveness across campus. The project is (1) restructuring the Learning Frameworks courses and curriculum to better address student resilience through cohort reorganization, the integration of cultural competency, career planning, and financial literacy into all Learning Frameworks (LF) courses, and bringing the College’s Peer Leadership Initiative (PLI) to scale as part of the LF course, (2) enhancing academic support structures by centralizing academic support into a cohesive Learning Commons, implementing SI for developmental education and gateway courses, and language support for ELL students, (3) better engaging students, including Hispanic and low-income students at the beginning of their academic careers, increasing Spanish language engagement from orientation to graduation, and compelling student programming for Hispanic and low- income MCC students.

Get to the Finish Line was developed to benefit students that are currently attending or have attended Laredo College within the past two years. Students who were forced to suspend their academic coursework due to financial adversity would be targeted beneficiaries of this program. In order to reach a higher number of participants, we encourage students from any major to be part of our program. While many students have exhausted their financial aid awards due to reaching the maximum allowable hours by federal regulations, other students may not qualify for any type of need-based assistance due to their Expected Family Contribution (EFC), but still be financially unable to cover the cost of their classes. These aspects of the federal financial aid regulations do not allow students to complete their education. The funds made available by this program will facilitate the assistance of a minimum of 120 students for one year. The Laredo College Financial Aid Office as well as the Laredo College Student Success Center will play an integral role in this program’s success.

Hand In Hand Support Program is a student success program designed to promote retention, persistence, academic performance, and holistic well-being for students who have experienced foster care and other out-of-home experiences by providing a continuous system of support and resources. Victoria College (VC) wants to improve equitable access to academic, financial, and support services for VC students. To accomplish this, VC will use the majority of requested funds to procure a new comprehensive student engagement system or customer relationship management software, often abbreviated to CRM. The remainder of the request will supplement our digital outreach efforts to link more underserved students into the new system.

The target group for improved engagement is our underserved student populations. Empowering underserved students to succeed will require (a) sharing relevant information about VCs services with targeted groups who need it most and (b) understanding how students use services so we can continually increase awareness and support for groups who need it most.

The International Leadership Program (ILP) is designed for students looking to enhance their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. The program provides opportunities for professional development while serving the global SMU community. This program is open to ALL globally-minded SMU students - domestic, international, graduate, and undergraduate. SMU's International Student & Scholar Services office (ISSS) is home to the International Leadership Program. It is the goal of the ISSS office for international students to have meaningful experiences at SMU and to help them navigate and take advantage of the resources offered to students. Leaders are always ready to offer advice about living in the U.S., answer any questions about resources off/on-campus, and serve as a welcoming guide to new students. International Leaders enhance their leadership skills through regular leadership trainings, leading projects of their own design that enhance the international student experience, and providing support for in-person and virtual programs hosted by the International Student and Scholar Services Office. Participants are challenged to think critically about gaps in the support of global students and use this analysis to strategize programs or resources to address them. In doing so alongside their cohort peers, leaders develop the skills necessary to effectively work with those of different educational, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds.

The KEY Center is a TRIO Student Support Services program available to 165 income-eligible, first generation or disabled students. The goal of the program is to assist students as they navigate the college experience by providing them an academically-supportive and enriching environment. TVCC faculty bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the TVCC student body. Advancing opportunities for mentorships and students to demonstrate their learned skills by networking with their community is a critical aspect to encourage student engagement during classroom instruction. The Learning Symposium offers opportunities for students to apply their knowledge and skills to create projects meaningful to them and the community they care about. The concept of the learning symposium is new at TVCC, but resembles the concept of a student research symposium at 4-year universities. The goals for creating an annual symposium are to:
• Provide a structure for faculty – student mentorships in specific content areas which students are passionate and interested in.
• Inspire cross-circular learning experiences.
• Provide a focus on academic achievement for TVCC students.
• Increase community involvement with TVCC students.
• Foster deeper connections between Terrell, Kaufman, Athens, Palestine, and dual credit students. (The symposium would be hosted by rotating TVCC campuses in Athens, Terrell, and Palestine yearly, with dual credit and embedded faculty encouraged to participate.)
• Gain regional recognition from other colleges within the second and third years by offering invitations for their students to join.

Students and faculty are encouraged to think of ways they can connect classroom instruction to service opportunities in their communities and demonstrate skills they have developed. This is known as Applied Learning Opportunities.
We are striving to recognize the knowledge students bring to the learning environment and connect with communities and seek real-life experiences. By encouraging students to participate in the Learning Symposium, we are asking students to apply what they are learning to a whole task in a form that is relevant and appropriate to their goals and skills. Areas in which to frame a project include, but are not limited to: Service Learning/Community Service, Research/Field Study, Arts, Leadership, Civil Engagement, and Internships.

A panel of judges volunteer and are present during the symposium to view displays and participate during the demonstrations. Students’ submissions are judged within two categories:
• Most Impactful: $500 award
• Most Creative: $500 award

The Lions Den Classroom is a retention-focused initiative to engage the Deans of the college with more impactful interactions with students majoring in the College of Education and Human Services. It is our belief that students want to have more of a connection with the Deans and want to know who they are. As the Deans visit classrooms with goodies throughout the academic year, it allows students to ask questions, understand the college on a deeper level, and provides them with the opportunity to get a firsthand view of the Deans. Lions Den Classroom most importantly provides students the chance to discover information they would not be able to find anywhere else.
