This course is designed to equip you with the tools to succeed during your college career. Simply attending school for many years is no guarantee that you have a clear understanding of the specific strategies needed to get what you want out of college. This course will provide the opportunity for you to learn and practice methods that will assist you in identifying and reaching your academic and career goals.

A Different Road To College: A Guide For Transitioning Non-Traditional Students is designed to introduce students to the contextual issues of college. Non-traditional students have an ever-growing presence on college campuses, especially community colleges. This open educational resource is designed to engage students in seeing themselves as college students and understanding the complexity of what that means to their lives.

There are a number of available textbooks to support student learning in first-year seminars, but these resources can come at a considerable cost. To help reduce those costs, faculty and staff at SHSU have collaborated on an open educational resource (OER) to support students enrolled in UNIV 1101: Learning Frameworks. Open educational resources are publicly available to copy, use, and adapt by others. Most importantly, they are free to students.

Foundations for College Success was written to provide information and resources about learning strategies, study skills, and how to locate and engage with academic support to help you succeed as you transition to college. This resource also provides an opportunity for you to learn about course topics directly from experts at Sam Houston State University. Topics covered in this resource include the following:

The main goal of the course is to highlight the general assumptions and methods that underlie all statistical analysis. The purpose is to get a good understanding of the scope, and the limitations of these methods. We also want to learn as much as possible about the assumptions behind the most common methods, in order to evaluate if they apply with reasonable accuracy to a given situation. Our goal is not so much learning bread and butter techniques: these are pre-programmed in widely available and used software, so much so that a mechanical acquisition of these techniques could be quickly done "on the job". What is more challenging is the evaluation of what the results of a statistical procedure really mean, how reliable they are in given circumstances, and what their limitations are.Login: guest_oclPassword: ocl

Textbook designed for students who are entering college.  The textbook aligns with the Texas Common Core Community College Course "EDUC 1300: Learning Framework"  

Student Success and First Year Experience are learning community courses at UTA that teach new students academic success skills to aid their transition to college. The goal of the courses is to help students identify their individual needs, determine what resources are appropriate, recognize the faculty role in their development, and formulate a plan for an actively engaged and enriched experience from campus to career. The courses will be taught by Peer Academic Leaders (PALs) and faculty, staff and/or graduate students to provide guidance, raise awareness and understanding of students' majors and help support collaborative and co-curricular opportunities available within the School/College. This open educational resource is the required textbook for both courses.

Instructors are encouraged to use the textbook in their K-State First classes, and it is also offered as a direct resource for students. In any university setting there are often unwritten rules that students are expected to understand, and this guide addresses and answers those questions directly. Ultimately, this guide encourages students to be engaged learners and to enjoy all facets of education, both inside and outside the classroom.
