Organizational Overview
UNT Dallas's mission is to transform the lives of our students by empowering them with the resources they need for success. UNT Dallas has a unique focus on serving under-resourced students in metro Dallas, becoming a pathway to the middle class for thousands of area students. Our core competence is preparing local students for high-need jobs in North Texas.

Program Overview
The Trailblazer Elite program (TBE) promotes student retention and ensures students successfully graduate from college. The program is designed to increase student retention, graduation rates in a timely manner, and career attainment. Traditionally, the TBE program has focused on first-generation college students. We teach students how to develop a support network that will help them navigate through their college journey and life.

Program Goals & Objectives
The TBE program is designed to build supportive and trusting relationships, provide academic support, and prepare students for a successful college transition for non-traditional students. In order to be successful, students must have a sufficient amount of interaction with faculty and staff on campus.

DELIVERY FORMAT: The program has a hybrid format or has both online and in-person components.

PROGRAM SCALE: Medium-scale (reaches between 10 and 25 percent of its target population)

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: Trailblazer Elite students benefit from leadership development, academic enrichment, mentorship, networking, and priority access to student support services. Programmatic touch-points, metrics, and early alerts increase student success, retention, graduation rates, and career attainment.
Of those selected to participate in the first cohort, 95% were retained from Fall 2020 to Fall 2021. 86% were retained from Fall 2021 to Fall 2022.
Compared to similar students outside the program, the Trailblazer Elite students: (1) had higher retention rates; (2) 84% are in good standing with the university; and (3) are 80% more engaged with the university.

Transition to Success Coach model and Student Success Questionnaire (SSQ): With our transition to career and academic pathways and Success Coaches, our institution is able to better service our students by assigning Success Coaches who are trained in a specific career and academic pathway. With our SSQ, it allows our Success Coaches and our institution to recognize the needs students express individually to better serve them by sharing about resources available to them both on campus and in our community. The SSQ has generated an in-house referral process to better service our students. In 2016, UTSA began to intentionally support our large population of first-generation college students. The First to Go & Graduate (F2G&G) program, housed in UTSA's First-Gen & Transfer Center, seeks to develop and support an institution-wide culture that actively recognizes, encourages, and supports first-generation students. Innovative features include the first-generation faculty to first-generation student coaching program, first-generation peer mentors, and an F2G&G Council comprised of students, staff, and faculty. First-gen groups form 'familias' that foster a sense of belonging and encourage retention and academic excellence. Since inception, the center has served over 1,700 students, of which nearly 60% are Hispanic. The most current first- and second-year retention rates for participants exceed UTSA’s overall rates: 88% vs 78% (fall 2020) and 73% vs 66% (fall 2019) respectively. Moreover, 40% of freshmen who participated in F2G&G [fall 2017] graduated in four years, 8% higher than non-participants. Excelencia in Education named the F2G&G Program as an Examples of Excelencia Program to Watch in 2019.

The University Leadership Network is a data-driven research-informed strategic program within the departments of Undergraduate Equity and Excellence that utilizes a holistic approach to serving students. Based on the core functions of building community, developing leadership skills, career readiness via experiential learning and financial literacy. ULN sets ambitious goals for its students and helps prepare them for life beyond graduation.

Over the course of four years, students earn incentive-based awards up to $20,000 ($5,000/yr) by completing programmatic milestones like maintaining full-time enrollment status, participating in experiential learning opportunities and leadership/professional development curriculum. Incentive-based awards have two main goals: to provide students with additional financial support to reduce financial need and to provide incentives for academic progress. The University Leadership Network selects 350 to 400 high-achieving students each academic year to participate in the program. Selection is based on FAFSA documentation utilizing the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC).

Analyses of the efficacy of ULN shows that participation in ULN significantly improves retention and graduation rates. These outcomes demonstrate how ULN is an innovative and effective intervention for postsecondary student success. Over the past 9 years, ULN continuously achieved positive outcomes as a result of the intentional programming and personalized support offered by staff members.

The NTCC Work4College (W4C) Program is a program that allows students the opportunity to EARN their degree at NTCC. The PURPOSE of the NTCC Work4College Program is to help students earn their degree with two goals in mind: 1) to give every student the opportunity to attend college without acquiring debt; and 2) to provide a hands-on learning experience in a meaningful work area allowing students to earn while they learn. The MISSION of the NTCC Work4College Program is to instill each student with qualities they will rely on for the rest of their lives while also helping them to earn a debt free education. Those positive attributes include a strong work ethic, time management, fiscal responsibility, interpersonal skills, and knowledge of other things expected of them in the workplace. These are all a part of the student’s learning experience in the NTCC Work4College Program.
