The Career and Technical Education Robo Recruiter was designed as an outreach mechanism to attract prospective students for CTE Programs, specifically prospective students in special populations and nontraditional gender fields. The goal is to enhance awareness of Associate of Applied Science Degree program offerings at the Blinn College District while providing labor market information regarding these career fields. The Robo Recruiter has an engaging interface which students can select the career option they want to explore. Labor market information regarding the career and training available at Blinn will be provided through the interface. The students will also have the option to provide contact information and connect with a Blinn advisor directly from the Robo Recruiter. The Robo Recruiter interface is held by a mannequin dressed in attire representing a CTE field.

Victoria College's Community Connection Center - Wrap Around Services supports the students in pursuit of their vocational and academic goals through the provision of career and transfer assistance, as well as, social support services. Students seeking their vocational and academic goals often struggle to maintain progress due to life's challenges that can derail academic success for a myriad of reasons. Support services are available to all students who need assistance in areas of housing and utilities, food and clothing insecurities, medical and mental health, transportation, childcare and emergency needs. SHSU is a partner of Navigate EAB and utilizes this technology as our primary student success management system. The Coordinated Care Network is a function of Navigate EAB and has been employed at SHSU as a retention-based partnership across several divisions. The Coordinated Care Network supports student success by bridging institutional efforts in receiving and triaging student alerts and referrals through Campus Connect (Navigate EAB). When faculty or staff issue an alert or referral, Campus Connect is configured to enact a chain of technology driven events to connect the student with the expert department who then provides appropriate intervention. Additionally, we target high-needs students to submit an alert or referral on themselves to receive assistance with their particular need(s). Overall, students who are alerted through the Coordinated Care Network and/or self-alert process experience positive gains in credit completion, term GPA outcomes, and persistence rates.

DREAMS Week (Dedication, Responsibility, Engagement, Academics, Motivation, and Success) is a zero week orientation program required of all new students and transfer students with less than 15 successful credit hours. The program began as part of Title V grant activities in 2021. The goal of the program is for students to feel comfortable in their environment, know how to access resources, be introduced to faculty and staff, and be engaged in student life activities while developing academic skills to be successful in college. Each activity falls under one of the target areas represented by the DREAMS acronym. The program covers use of technology, cultural diversity, financial literacy, team building, note taking and study skills, academic and organizational skills, career planning, clubs and organizations, campus tours, and non-academic support services. Student life activities are held throughout the days to help students become acclimated to their campus and engage with other students, faculty, and staff. The program utilizes student mentors to help new students identify people on their campus that can be a resource as they start college. Howard College history and tradition is also covered so that students can begin to understand and relate to being a Hawk. Students are asked to bring their laptop with them but are provided with needed supplies throughout the program. Students are required to stay throughout the day and lunch is provided. The program concludes with a campus "Block Party" that includes all students, faculty, and staff. The Block Party provides lunch, outdoor student activities, music, and more!

Success Coaching at Dallas College offers concierge-style case-management and support through a learning care model to improve the student experience, eliminate barriers, strengthen student persistence, completion, and success. Through proactive case management, success coaching guides learners through their academic journey by empowering and inspiring them with caring, relatable, knowledgeable, and accessible strategies.

All Dallas College students are assigned a success coach who help students navigate college life and keep them on track throughout their academic journey. Success coaches engage students in comprehensive and customized success planning to fit their individual needs. Success Coaches are responsible for helping to orient students to college life, guiding students through initial discussions on career exploration and first-year courses selections, leveraging technology to track student progress towards academic and career goals, and liaising between the student and a broad network of internal and external resources designed to provide wrap-around support and eliminate any barriers that could impact the student's success.

Students may access success coaching services in multiple modalities including scheduled appointments, walk-ins, online conferencing, phone, and email correspondence. Success coaching services are available Monday through Friday from 8am to 12midnight to ensure all students have equitable access to support services.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: Preliminary data from Fall 2022 shows that success coaching had a positive impact on persistence. Students in all categories (first time in college, continuing, transfer in, transient, charter, dual credit, early college high school) who scheduled appointment(s) with a success coach had higher persistence rates than students who did not meet with their coach. Students who scheduled two or more appointments with a success coach had even higher persistence rates.

Embedded Dual Credit Biology Course

Dual credit biology course is a course that is taught on our high school campus, Arlington College and Career High School. Our campus is an early college high school partnered with the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus. Offering a dual credit biology course on our campus allows our students to take the course in a familiar environment and to easily access extra supports provided by the instructor. The instructor, an embedded dual credit faculty member, meets all SACS requirements to teach the course but is employed by the ISD. She teaches high school science courses as well as dual credit biology.
The goal and objective for offering this course on our campus is to help our students establish a love for science and to continue to pursue courses and career pathways in STEM fields, which is a high needs employment field in Texas.
Our target population are first generation, low income, high school students (dual credit students) who sometimes need a great deal of support and encouragement to help them believe they can achieve. Our dual credit embedded biology instructor, Jennifer Meador, is able to provide the perfect balance of support and rigor that enables students to learn the college readiness skills required to help them succeed. We have seen a large increase in the amount of students who want to pursue STEM careers after taking her course. The impact she has on their progress is creating generational change that will help to further build a talent strong Texas.

The F.A.T.E. Center is an initiative at Texas A&M University-San Antonio that serves foster and adopted youth enrolled at the institution who have been touched by the foster care system. Our program works with foster/adopted youth through the enrollment pipeline helping students complete their FAFSA, ETV, TSI testing, and new student orientation. Once the student enrolls at the institution, students are assigned a peer mentor who works with the student to engage with other foster youth, the campus community as a whole. The peer mentoring program is also focused on career exploration and major choice. All foster and adopted youth are also assigned an academic coach who works with students on their academic supports. Finally, the program has emergency funds and a supply pantry with non-perishable food, hygiene products, and school supplies. The F.A.T.E. Center contains wrap around supports to make sure foster youth not only enroll at A&M-San Antonio, but that they are retained and graduated.

FLEXTech is an innovative program that supports mobility into cybersecurity and information technology by connecting students and employers through networking events, career fairs, mentorship opportunities, and use of career platforms, the program provides career readiness to students through online and in-person learning and assistance with job search strategy, resume assistance, LinkedIn, cover letters, employer research, networking, and developing an understanding of IT and Cybersecurity job fields.

The Fearless Leadership Institute (FLI), established at the University of Texas at Austin in 2013, is a holistic development initiative for Black and LatinX college women at UT-Austin, focusing on three core development areas: academic, personal, and professional development. The initiative provides services and hosts events that promote student engagement, sense of belonging, leadership development, and equips participants with the tools necessary for succeeding at the university and beyond. Participants can take advantage of weekly interest groups, exposure trips to Wall Street and Silicon Valley, international study abroad opportunities, graduate school preparation and mentorship from an upperclassmen, graduate students or professional women from the community. Part of FLI’s strategic plan includes extending programming and support to high school students. For the past two years, FLI has hosted a leadership conference for female high school students from around the state of Texas. To further impact high school students FLI will partner with She Needs To Know (SNTK), a local non-profit, to offer group and individual mentorship with the goal of impacting the postsecondary success for the high school participants of SNTK.

The Office of First-Year Experience (FYE) challenges and supports students across the first year to connect them with outstanding learning opportunities that help with the transition into university life and achieving both academic and personal goals. We offer guidance, advice, and support as students navigate their college experience on our campus. Through programs, resources, and services, we provide opportunities and information students need to help them meet fellow Jaguars and to view Texas A&M-San Antonio as home.

We promote a student-centered environment that supports all students during their transitions to discover, engage, and connect at A&M-San Antonio and we aspire to:
• Encourage students to be self-directed learners through a strengths-based mindset;
• Actively challenge students on a path of self-discovery to become lifelong learners;
• Foster an environment that allows students to cut across traditional boundaries and viewpoints through dialogue and innovative learning opportunities;
• Cultivate a foundation for student persistence through intentional and transformative experiences that support students’ personal growth and development.

The core values of the Office of First-Year Experience are:

Our program components consist of the following:
• First-Year Seminar (FYS): this is a three-credit hour, success seminar designed to help students discover their place on campus, in society, within their discipline, and their career. Each course also has an assigned peer leader who collaborates and provide instructional support alongside the instructor, plan/present curriculum and instructional activities, coordinate and assist with the planning of events/programs and have one-on-one personalized mentorship meetings with students.
• Learning Communities (LC): 2-4 linked courses that allow participants to partake in exclusive activities created to enhance their learning experience at A&M-San Antonio. We have major specific, themed and traditional communities. The faculty in each LC, team up to build connections amongst the linked courses through shared assignments and activities.
• Common Experience: This is a yearlong initiative designed to cultivate a common intellectual conversation on a theme and facilitate increased interactions among faculty, staff, and students. It provide participants an opportunity to deconstruct and explore a common subject through multidisciplinary lenses and apply academic thought towards finding meaningful solutions to discovered challenges. Throughout the year, various events and programs provide opportunities for engagement for the entire university community and beyond.
• Faculty Advising Program: We pair select first-year students with a faculty mentor who will be available to them throughout their entire first year on campus. Faculty are assigned four students each and are given $200 per mentee to be able to attend group mentoring social events either on- or off-campus.

The First Year Experience Course (NCTC 1001) is a free, required non-credit, 4-week course designed to provide students with tools and strategies to persist and succeed at North Central Texas College. Utilizing "just in time" teaching and learning strategies, the online orientation course is provided to FTIC students at NCTC, before they have earned 15 credit hours. Topics covered in the course include: NCTC technology and access, campus resources, college learning expectations, communication tools, academic success strategies, financial literacy, and campus safety resources. First time college students (excluding dual credit) are required to pass NCTC 1001.

DELIVERY FORMAT: The program is online only.

The University College’s First Year course offerings assist students as they transition from high school to the university and have been tailored to assist students based on a number of criteria including, major, prior college hours, class rank and academic performance.The UNIV 1301 Learning Framework course is the most popular and widely taken first-year experience course offered. Here, students will learn about the psychology of learning and develop the skills that will enable them to be successful college students. The Learning Framework course is organized by college, so students will also learn about program specific requirements depending on their major. In addition to the Learning Framework course, UTRGV also offers, UNIV 1101: Self-Discovery for Academic and Career Success. This one-hour course connects students to university resources as they navigate their first year at UTRGV while also helping them identify and develop a plan to achieve their academic and professional goals. Finally, the UNIV 1001 and UNIV 1300: Living and Working by Design courses encourage new students to think about and build out multiple college experiences by incorporating design thinking principles. Here students are given a safe and supportive space to think about possible majors and careers without any fear of judgment or critique. Students then work through potential major/career pathways by thinking about the actions they need to take and the resources they need in order to make their pathway(s) a reality.

MCC’s Title V grant project, First Year Focus: Developing Academic and Co-Curricular Student Support Structures to Improve First Year Outcomes puts into place innovative support structures designed to create enriching academic opportunities that foster success for MCC’s diverse student population. These activities include restructuring the first year experience to address student resilience, integrating and building academic support structures to promote persistence, and cultivating student engagement and inclusiveness across campus. The project is (1) restructuring the Learning Frameworks courses and curriculum to better address student resilience through cohort reorganization, the integration of cultural competency, career planning, and financial literacy into all Learning Frameworks (LF) courses, and bringing the College’s Peer Leadership Initiative (PLI) to scale as part of the LF course, (2) enhancing academic support structures by centralizing academic support into a cohesive Learning Commons, implementing SI for developmental education and gateway courses, and language support for ELL students, (3) better engaging students, including Hispanic and low-income students at the beginning of their academic careers, increasing Spanish language engagement from orientation to graduation, and compelling student programming for Hispanic and low- income MCC students.
