Austin Community College’s new, all-inclusive scholarship program supports students focused on starting a career immediately after ACC. Career Scholars receive financial and academic support while working toward a certificate or associate degree in an approved area of study. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees — for a total of $5,000 disbursed over a period of up to 3 years — and ensures recipients have the guidance and support they need to reach their goals. Career Scholars builds holistic support services around the students, with rich career service resources and academic support in an effort to 1) alleviate financial barriers that often prevent underserved student populations from attaining a higher ed credential; 2) support students academically while enhancing their career skills, and 3) give students exposure to potential internships with industry partners in their area of study. The unique Career Scholars program serves two categories of students: graduating high school seniors and current ACC adult learners. Participants in the High School Career Scholars program work toward a certificate or associate degree in a field that was identified by the Texas Workforce Commission as having high demand and earning potential. These fields are: Arts, Digital Media & Communications; Business; Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Engineering; Education; Health Care; Manufacturing/Skilled Trades; Public & Social Services. The Career Scholars Program for adults is open to adult learners interested in the following career areas, which have strong hiring and salary opportunities: Accounting/Bookkeeping; Computer Sciences; Health Care; Manufacturing; and Applied Tech/Skilled Trades.

Students on academic probation or academic suspension are provided zero-hour, course-based support for academic recovery. Course curriculum and activities align with activities that lead to academic success in the students' other courses. Students meet with an academic recovery coach, receive coordinated care from other offices such as counseling services, engage with tutors for coursework, and more. All support is available both in-person and virtually. UNIV 2001, for students on academic probation, and UNIV 3001, for students on academic suspension, are designed for students to regain good academic standing, thereby increasing credit accumulation, increasing GPA, and decreasing time to completion.

Amarillo College's Advocacy & Resource Center (ARC) was established to provide students with a centralized location to access resources that can assist in meeting students' basic needs. Social Workers are available to work with Amarillo College staff, faculty and community members to assist in removing barriers that prevent students from obtaining success. Through the ARC, students can access the Social Services Program which provides access to internal and external resources to ensure that student's needs are addressed appropriately. Emergency Aid is also available to students who meet the qualification requirements of the college's No Excuses Fund. Navarro College's Bulldog Life student success services include opportunities for the student to grow personally while pursuing their educational goals. Opportunities include workshops to learn more about their personal gifts and skills, travel opportunities, and our culture of caring through efforts to support the student mentally, spiritually and physically. We provide a food pantry, called Bulldog Market, on each of the 4 campuses. Every student has access to the Bulldog Market to help with food, hygiene items and school supplies among other items. The Culture of Caring Coordinator is a licensed social worker and provides referrals to resources on campus and in the community. We also provide emergency financial assistance as needed. Leadership opportunities include frequent community service events (Operation Bulldogs Serve), workshops as well as college and career visits. Multicultural programming is also a part of Bulldog Life including celebrations and exhibitions of different cultures on campus and visits to multicultural museums. This program is available to all students of Navaro College through intentional initiatives that support student success outcomes.

Career Academy is a dual credit workforce program in a high demand career that leads to a college level 1 certificate while in high school or the summer immediately following high school graduation. Austin Community College offers five Career Academies to help you land an in-demand job as soon as possible in the field of construction, education, manufacturing, health sciences, or IT. Career Academy classes are intended for workforce entry, not university transfer. However, some credits may be applied toward an associate degree. Tuition and fees are waived for participating in-district students. Out-of-district students qualify for significant discounts and pay just $150 per course. These discounts are good for up to 12 courses, after which regular tuition and fees are assessed for both groups. Classes are taught by ACC faculty on ACC campuses (or virtually, when necessary).

Career READY supports students who are interested in pursuing an experience in a field that typically does not offer pay. Through the Federal Work Study Experiment, students can be awarded pay amounts based on their unmet need. Students work at off campus locations in internships that align with their academic pursuits and they get paid as campus student workers for the semester of their internship experience. Students engage in all the same training and requirements of being an on campus student employee, and they benefit from their off campus training and requirements at their internship site. Students apply for the program via Handshake Experiences where we connect with their site supervisors about their internship experience and provide student and site evaluations. While this program is open to all students who are federal work study eligible, we encourage all students to check with student financial aid about the opportunity to become eligible. We have had 47 students successfully complete the program since spring of 2021, with over $279,000 awarded! Students share that this opportunity allowed them to focus more on their courses and internship experience because they didn’t have to get an extra job to make ends meet. Additionally, a large number of participants have been Education majors, who traditionally work full-time at clinical teaching sites without pay. This program has made a huge difference and impact on them so they could successfully complete their degrees without the stress of limited to no income, or taking out additional student loans.

The Career/Technical supply reimbursement program allows for grant funds to alleviate financial burdens on students in specific career and technical education programs. Hence, breaking down barriers for students. The program reimburses students up to $250 for out-of-pocket expenses. The expenses are program specific and are required by the program. Nursing (RN/LVN), Pharmacy Technician, Emergency Medical Services, and Surgical Technology program expenses may include badges, scrubs/uniforms/lab coats, watches, stethoscope, shoes, electronic device, and blood pressure cuff. Welding could include the student's welding hood and gloves. Barber and Cosmetology expenses could include the required student kit (manikin heads, clippers, shears, combs, brushes, hair dryers, curling irons, etc). Students have been very appreciative of the reimbursement program. Many, as we know, don't have extra funds for the additional costs that financial aid can't cover.

ACC makes childcare scholarships available to low-income student parents. The core features of the childcare scholarship program are 1) case management and 2) parent choice. Students who accept a childcare scholarship must agree to participate in intensive case management with a Student Advocate to help with clarity of goals and decisionmaking, referrals to additional supports and on-going problem-solving and personal support. Students who receive the scholarship may select the childcare provider of their choice. ACC arranges for payment directly with the provider. Students must pay the difference between the amount of their scholarship and the total cost of care charged by the provider. The goals of the childcare scholarships are 1) to improve the semester to semester persistence rates of student parents and 2) to improve the graduation rates of student parents. Funding for the program come from ACC's Perkins grant and from institutional sources.

Today’s college attendees are more mobile than any time in history. They have many choices to complete a credential of value, and college hopping is commonplace. Unfortunately, this results in situations where students have completed almost all their requirements but left without a credential. The population of “almost grads” is growing, creating a dearth of qualified employees in the workforce. Through ODC, three North Texas higher education institutions actively engaged with “almost grads” to provide them the assistance they needed to complete a credential of value. ODC began by extracting students within 15 credit hours of credential completion. Accelerating Student Success funds encouraged students to enroll when they faced barriers such as not enough time to complete a FAFSA, having excessive hour fees, or a small financial incentive to re-enroll. ODC helped cover the remaining credits to graduation without any further roadblocks…just a carrot to convince students to complete their graduation goals.

The Coordinated Care Network is a function of Navigate EAB and has been employed at SHSU as a retention-based partnership across several divisions. The Coordinated Care Network supports student success by bridging institutional efforts in receiving and triaging student alerts and referrals through Campus Connect (Navigate EAB). When faculty or staff issue an alert or referral, Campus Connect is configured to enact a chain of technology driven events to connect the student with the expert department who then provides appropriate intervention. Additionally, we target high-needs students to submit an alert or referral on themselves to receive assistance with their particular need(s). Overall, students who are alerted through the Coordinated Care Network and/or self-alert process experience positive gains in credit completion, term GPA outcomes, and persistence rates.

The Dallas College Conversion Program seeks to ensure that specific populations maintain momentum when engaging the enrollment process. Specifically, it ensures that students who "apply and not enroll" are monitored and engaged. These are students that despite numerous traditional outreach attempts do not take action and are "stuck" in some part of the enrollment pipeline. Additionally, the program seeks to actively re-engage students that have stop-out/dropped-out in recent years (typically going back (2) two academic years) and intentionally connecting and providing very focused service supports for their anticipated return. The Dallas College Family Care Center will provide support to students who are parents or expectant parents that are underserved or first generation and economically disadvantaged population to provide wraparound services that includes a three-tier model. Tier one: Immediate physical and mental health needs that address potential crises situations, such as food, formula, or childcare insecurity, providing physical resources such as diapers, female and infant hygiene, safe car seats, or other needs. Some of the program supplies i.e. car seats, safety equipment will be free rentals, and stay within the college’s inventory for program sustainability. In addition, provide mental and emotional support including parenting support groups and early childhood parenting classes. Tier 2 would provide Financial Literacy and including classes on budget and credit management, saving and long-term financial planning for a sustainable lifestyle. Tier 3 would focus on academic and student support services working with Success Coaches and Career Counselors securing those students are on a pathway for success in their academic career ensuring their financial goals align realistically with their career choices and degree/transfer plans.

The College’s Continuing Education programs selected for short-term training in Corpus Christi and Aransas County align with Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend’s Targeted Occupations List for 2019-2021 and trends outlined by the Texas Workforce Commission for both Texas and the Coastal Bend. These programs correlate with high demand for employment, including: Healthcare (Certified Nurse Aid, Electrocardiography, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Secretary, and Phlebotomy) and Trade Industry (Building Maintenance, Carpentry [Basic], Electrical Wiring, HVAC, Millwright, Plumbing [Basic] and Welding). These short-term programs range from four to 16 weeks to complete, and programmatic sequencing allows students to on-board into specific study fields without prior knowledge or skills development. Additionally, these CE programs, whether they provide certification or WSAs (Workforce Skills Awards), allow students to gain immediate employment during or upon completion.The College offers various modalities of course delivery, including face-to-face, remote or E-learning and hybrid formats. The Kilgore College Early Alert program is designed to improve the retention and persistence of all students by providing added instructional support to low-risk, medium-risk, or high-risk students. One of the institutional core values is success and improvement and escalating student success. The goal is to increase faculty involvement in the Early Alert System.
The Instructional Student Support Department works closely with the retention team members and faculty to increase early alert participation through training, emphasizing using the system each term and implementing the five steps to engage students in the intervention process. The fives steps are: (1) reach out to the student within 48-hours of receiving the early-alert assignment by phone, (2) email, (3) virtual meeting, and (4) in person when needed; additional, each student account will be noted thoroughly with the intervention performed. (5) Finally, feedback on the interventions will be sent to the submitter (faculty/staff member) and the retention manager. The submitted concerns include attendance, grades, general (not grades/attendance), behavioral/disciplinary, confidential, drop from class, financial, other, and withdrawal from college.
