Peer Mentors have successfully completed the Learning Frameworks course and now work closely with the First-Year Seminar instructor to provide peer mentoring and instructional support to one section of the Learning Frameworks's first-year and transfer students. Coordinating with an assigned Learning Frameworks faculty member to prepare for each weekly lesson, peer mentors serve as liaisons between students and faculty. Peer mentors are also clearinghouses for student success resources and campus events. They exemplify critical thinking by modeling class assignments, assessing weekly writing assignments, and facilitating small group discussions. During weekly peer mentor-student conversations about academic success tips, co-curricular opportunities, and targeted workshops, they create an atmosphere of trust, responsibility, and encouragement with students.

The First-Year Seminar Peer Mentor Program also benefits peer mentor cohorts. Peer mentors develop leadership skills vital to college and professional success; receive mentorship from faculty supervisors; create a close community within their cohort through shared trainings and experiences; cultivate fairness by engaging in challenging assumptions about cross- and intra-cultural diversity; and participate in professional development opportunities such as presenting at academic conferences, moderating First-Year Seminar events, and networking with campus and community leaders.

Jarvis has instituted a variety of programs to increase the affordability of degree attainment and student completion.

Project Comeback is a one-time opportunity that affords stopped-out students a second chance at earning a degree. For qualifying students, prior balances are forgiven in order to increase the capacity of students to return to college and complete their degree without the onerous challenge of paying past and current debt. Balance forgiveness is contingent upon degree completion.

The current eligibility criteria includes:
--current debt must be $10,000 or greater;
--have a current GPA of 2.0 or greater;
--be eligible to receive financial aid or pay out-of-pocket; and
--have not been enrolled in college for at least 5 years.

Retention and Remediation in the School of Health Careers

There are eight programs in the School of Health Careers at Angelina College and each program requires specific prerequisite and corequisite courses. Retention and remediation has two major goals: (1)orientation camp for all students entering programs (2) general requirements of mandatory remediation for any student who is not successful in a unit exam or in a clinical/practicum area.

The target population is a student currently enrolled in one of the eight programs. During orientation camp, a risk factors survey is obtained and even prior to being unsuccessful, the student may be seen by faculty to provide strategies to avoid dropping below the passing benchmark. Identified risk factors include but are not limited to (1) first-generation college student; (2) responsibility for children or other family members (e.g. parents); (3) English as a Second language; (4) employment part-time or full time; (5) socio-economic status; (5) entering overall GPA at the 2.5 level; (6) geographical location in relationship to the main campus.

South Texas College has developed and implemented a re-engagement program designed to accelerate credential completion among adults with some college hours, but no credential. The program includes targeted marketing and recruitment communications, personalized support with enrollment, scholarship opportunities, and assistance with wrap-around services. Eligible students are connected with the Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement (VIDA) for academic case management and basic needs supports in order to keep students on track towards graduation.

Under the direction of the Director of Student Retention, the goal of the Student Success Coaches is to build rapport with students through communication and trust. The Success Coaches use an early alert program called CRM Advise to identify students that are at risk, as they enter the College. The markers used are socioeconomic factors, test scores, EFC numbers, and FTIC status. Success Coaches are responsible for communicating with these students, to ensure that they are aware of services, on campus activities, and social clubs. Using the CRM Advise program, faculty members are also able to send alerts to the Success Coaches when there is a student that is exhibiting at risk behavior(s) in the classroom. The factors that are used would be missing class, assignments, not prepared, and poor performance on assignments. When a professor creates an at-risk alert in Advise, the Success Coach will contact the students through text, email, and phone calls. The Coaches will attempt to build a rapport with the student in an effort to figure out where they can help. In many cases, the student will be referred to on-campus resources, offered time management tips, study strategies, and test taking strategies. The Success Coaches also act as academic advisors to all students and a Financial Aid advisor to students. Finally, the Success Coaches are responsible for all New Student Orientations (NSO). These orientations are offered as a face-to-face option and an online option. The NSO is the first step to improving the first-year experience for the students. The Success Coaches give the students an understanding of what it will take to be successful, while also providing the new students with a clear picture of what is expected of them.

Susan Harwood Grants are awarded to provide training and education programs for employers and workers on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces and to inform workers of their rights and employers of their responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act. Targeted Topic grants focus on training workers and employers on occupational safety and health hazards associated with one of the selected OSHA-selected training topics. OSHA selected topics vary from year to year and are selected based on fatal statistics, national emphasis programs, and pending regulations. Topics are separated into general industry, construction, and other. Safety is paramount, especially in the warehousing field which employs more than half a million people across the nation. South Texas College's goal is to help to reduce the number of work-related accidents, injuries, and deaths in STC’s service area by conducting training in the Targeted Topic of Warehousing. Today, more than ever, building a strong pipeline of skilled American workers is critical for companies to grow their business and compete in the 21st century global economy. Apprenticeship USA is a way for companies to document, organize, and showcase their current work-based learning and apprenticeship programs that meet industry and national standards for registration with the U.S Department of Labor. Student Success Services (SSS) is a TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program’s mission is to help eligible students succeed at Weatherford College (WC), graduate and/or transfer to a university to complete a degree. SSS participants are provided personal academic advising, individual development plans, tutoring and supplemental instruction, financial aid assistance, personal counseling, career advising, transfer assistance through campus tours and cooperative advising with transfer admissions offices, and cultural enrichment. TX Reskilling Grant

The TX Reskilling Grant provides aid to Texas students who were within one year of completing a qualified post-secondary degree or certificate program, but were forced to drop out of their program prior to the Fall 2020 semester because of hardships caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. THECB funding for this program is from the federal CARES Act appropriation to the State of Texas under the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund. Eligible students who have completed the FAFSA will be entitled to receive from $500 to $2,500 to cover tuition and fees, the aggregate cost of which is not covered by other available assistance programs such as Pell grants. Upon application, this assistance will be available to students for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters within 2021. All funding under this program must be expended solely for grants to students.

The Trailblazer Elite program (TBE) promotes student retention and ensures students successfully graduate from college. The program is designed to increase student retention, graduation rates in a timely manner, and career attainment. Traditionally, the TBE program has focused on first-generation college students. We teach students how to develop a support network that will help them navigate through their college journey and life.

Program Goals & Objectives
The TBE program is designed to build supportive and trusting relationships, provide academic support, and prepare students for a successful college transition for non-traditional students. In order to be successful, students must have a sufficient amount of interaction with faculty and staff on campus.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: Trailblazer Elite students benefit from leadership development, academic enrichment, mentorship, networking, and priority access to student support services. Programmatic touch-points, metrics, and early alerts increase student success, retention, graduation rates, and career attainment.
Of those selected to participate in the first cohort, 95% were retained from Fall 2020 to Fall 2021. 86% were retained from Fall 2021 to Fall 2022.
Compared to similar students outside the program, the Trailblazer Elite students: (1) had higher retention rates; (2) 84% are in good standing with the university; and (3) are 80% more engaged with the university.

In January 2021, the University of Texas at Arlington launched the eLearning Transformational Model (eLearning TM) program to build the foundation for sustainable and scalable transformation into a dynamic, digitally enhanced and responsive university. UTA’s eLearning TM efforts align to provide exceptional contribution to the Building a Talent Strong Texas plan, specifically in areas of increasing attainment of postsecondary credentials for adult learners and streamlining student academic and career pathways through innovative course and program redesign and enhanced support services that lead to increased credentials of value.

The eLearning TM team utilized a structured, holistic approach to supporting the implementation of a set of six short-term micro-credential (certificate) programs in high-demand employment areas (health informatics, diversity and inclusion in business, logistics engineering, military social work, and learning technologies) designed for adult learners. The 90+ members of the cross-campus eLearning team coordinated to launch these certificate programs and simultaneously identified a need for and launched eight parallel projects to provide robust and high-quality course and faculty development; offer flexible teaching and learning options through modernized technology and facilities; deliver enhanced market analysis to programs for recruitment; harness data for targeted support of learners across instructional modalities to close achievement and equity gaps.

lifePATH is a post-secondary program for college-aged students who have neurodevelopmental disorders. The lifePATH Occupational and Life Skills Associate Degree seeking students have IQ's of at least 70 or above in:
*Full Scale IQ
*Reading Comprehension IQ achievement score
*Written Expression or Fluency IQ achievement score
*Math Problem Solving or Reasoning IQ achievement score

lifePATH’s vision is to foster belonging and a diverse community where neurodiverse students have equitable opportunities for academic, social, and career growth.

Students in lifePATH develop independence, exercise self-determination, increase knowledge of college-level academic expectations, practice the social expectations necessary for success in the adult world, and engage in opportunities for career exploration.

lifePATH students are selected as part of a cohort model. Students enter the program together as a peer group and remain together for at least two years. The cohort provides students with the structure and support needed to increase independence and social interactions. The cohort model also promotes community and a sense of belonging.

Students in lifePATH participate in Campus RAMP and community internships, where they bring skills learned in the classroom into the work environment. Beginning in year 2, Campus RAMP focuses on mentoring and job shadowing activities. In year 4, the community internship provides community-based work experience that allows students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the lifePATH courses and the Campus RAMP to the business environment. Mentors for Campus RAMP and sites for the community internship are selected through a collaborative process and are meant to help students establish transferable skills that can be applied to their career goals.
