Join the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's (THECB) Division of Digital Learning during Open Education (OE) Week as we continue to promote and celebrate open education, open pedagogy, and the open agenda. Learn more about the resources and programs the THECB provides to support and strengthen open education in the state. Sessions will focus on OER research, including the results of the 3rd OER Landscape Survey, and a panel featuring grantee experiences in developing and implementing OER. To continue building on the achievements of the Open Nursing Education (ONE) Summit, we will highlight the Open Educational Resources Nursing Essentials Project.

Session Title: A Pivotal Moment for OER: Using Research to Inform Strategic Direction

Tuesday, March 5, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. CST Register

This session will allow participants to learn about THECB-commissioned statewide OER research that provides the foundation for strategic resource development, program, and service delivery. Our partners from Bay View Analytics and ISKME will join us to provide insights on open educaton based on research at the national and state levels, including a look at the results of the 3rd statewide OER Landscape Survey. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in valuable conversations on the impact of open education.

Session Title: Collaboration is Key: Building the OER Nursing Essentials (ONE) Project 

Wednesday, March 6, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. CST Register

The ONE Project involves the design and development of OER for nursing, based on the AACN Essentials curriculum, in collaboration with stakeholders at Texas institutions as well as nursing educators from across the country. Beginning in the spring of 2022, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's (THECB) Division of Digital Learning contracted with OpenStax at Rice University to design and develop OER for nursing.  In this session THECB and OpenStax will highlight the project background and explore the eight nursing textbooks, now available. The session will provide an opportunity for questions and answers about adopting and using the resources.

Session Title: Leveraging Grant Funding: Faculty Experiences in Developing and Implementing OER

Thursday, March 7, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. CST Register

In this session, grantees from the Open Educational Resources (OER) Grant Program will participate in a panel discussion about their experiences developing and implementing OER. Learn about how the panelists have advanced OER to support student success and be inspired by their stories to support open education in your work.

Highlights from OE Week 2023

Building an Ecosystem on a Foundation of Excellence: Open Education Beyond Instruction: Tuesday, March 7, 2023 11 a.m. - noon CST 

This session will introduce a variety of creative ways in which OER have been utilized in Texas, in instruction and beyond. Additionally, a demo of current projects will take place including a deep dive into the OER Nursing Essentials Project (O.N.E.) – a collaborative effort between THECB and OpenStax, an introduction to the THECB’s Student Success Inventory, and the unveiling of the Texas OER Playbook. 

Research to Resources: Collecting Useful Data to Inform OER Initiatives 

This two-part session will introduce participants to THECB commissioned statewide OER research that provides the foundation for future resource development and program and service delivery.  Click Here for Speaker Bios

Part 1: Research to Resources: Collecting Useful Data: Wednesday, March 8, 2023, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. CST This first session will focus on the biennial Texas OER landscape survey, recent research studies on regional OER needs and available OER for high-impact courses. This session will present research questions, methodologies, and findings. 

Part 2: Research to Resources: Informing OER Initiatives: Wednesday, March 8, 2023, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. CST This second session will further explore the findings of the research to illustrate how the data can be used to design effective programs and services, encourage advocacy, and build stronger OER communities. 

Through the Eyes of our Stakeholders: Faculty and Student Experiences with OER: Thursday, March 9, 2023, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. CST 

In this session, participants will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of first-time and expert level faculty and student teams who have implemented methods of open pedagogy.  The robust conversation will provide insight into the lived experiences of those actively engaged in OER. Click Here for Speaker Bios
