Foster Homeless Adopted Resources (FHAR) is a component of UTEP's holistic advising model designed to provide comprehensive academic and social wellness services to students who were adopted or aged out of foster care or are experiencing housing insecurity.

FHAR staff members assess students needs for social wellness services, address basic needs insecurities (food, housing, and transportation), provide crisis intervention and connect students to appropriate resources on campus and in the community.

UTEP students in crisis must manage various challenges that conflict with academic responsibilities. The FHAR program facilitates immediate, holistic institutional support, to ensure these students persist through to degree completion.

Gator Gateway is an interactive multi-day interactive program held on-campus designed to help students become more comfortable with their transition to UHD. The campus community collectively develops programming that provides students with campus resources to ensure their first-year is successful. Students learn how to be successful, interact with faculty and staff from your intended major, hear more about student activities, connect with other new students, and engage in classroom activities. Additional programming includes:
-participate in interactive activities that will help them become acclimated to the university
-interact with a peer mentor that serves as their guide during the experience
-get an inside look at UHD classes through classroom experiences

Get to the Finish Line was developed to benefit students that are currently attending or have attended Laredo College within the past two years. Students who were forced to suspend their academic coursework due to financial adversity would be targeted beneficiaries of this program. In order to reach a higher number of participants, we encourage students from any major to be part of our program. While many students have exhausted their financial aid awards due to reaching the maximum allowable hours by federal regulations, other students may not qualify for any type of need-based assistance due to their Expected Family Contribution (EFC), but still be financially unable to cover the cost of their classes. These aspects of the federal financial aid regulations do not allow students to complete their education. The funds made available by this program will facilitate the assistance of a minimum of 120 students for one year. The Laredo College Financial Aid Office as well as the Laredo College Student Success Center will play an integral role in this program’s success.

The Good Life Center is a combination of a food pantry as well as clothing closet designed to be accessible by all students at Howard College. The purpose of this center is to provide resources for students who may be struggling or have a need. Students can gain access to food items if they have a need and they do not have the financial resources to buy themselves snacks or groceries. There is also a full closet with professional and casual clothes. Students needing clothes for professional interviews can come in and pick out an outfit. If a student needs basic clothing items such as winter jackets, jeans, etc. they can get whatever is needed. There is not a base requirement to access this center other than being a Howard College Student. The goal is to help students achieve academic success and help remove barriers to them achieving that success.

Intensive Transfer Pathway Program (IPP)

To meet the challenge expressed by demographic and enrollment changes, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi has created the intensive transfer pathway program (IPP) focusing on both Del Mar College and Coastal Bend College to actively market and host services to community college students in academic pathway programs. This program provides on-campus outreach and advising sessions each semester as well as immersive visit programs at TAMUCC to facilitate enrollment, advising, and transition from the two-year to the four-year institution. This program is facilitated through activities planned and executed by the Office of Recruitment and Admissions under the guidance of the Division of Enrollment Management.

Students selected in the cohort (up to 80 each year) will receive $ 1,000 each fall and spring to help support their transitional activities and ease the their cost burden as new transfer students. The students in each cohort will be required to participate in the engagement activities and meet satisfactory academic and enrollment requirements. Student success will be measured relative to their persistence from the initial year of transfer to the second.

Faculty are often the first people who know that students are having problems in (or out) of your classes that may affect their success or retention. Faculty and staff are asked to report students who are having academic, personal, financial or other concerns (excessive absences, disability services, homelessness) using an online form. The retention team will begin contacting these students within 24 or 48 hours of completing the report. The team includes Academic Advising, Disability Services, Dual Credit and Title V representatives.

TVCC faculty bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the TVCC student body. Advancing opportunities for mentorships and students to demonstrate their learned skills by networking with their community is a critical aspect to encourage student engagement during classroom instruction. The Learning Symposium offers opportunities for students to apply their knowledge and skills to create projects meaningful to them and the community they care about. The concept of the learning symposium is new at TVCC, but resembles the concept of a student research symposium at 4-year universities. The goals for creating an annual symposium are to:
• Provide a structure for faculty – student mentorships in specific content areas which students are passionate and interested in.
• Inspire cross-circular learning experiences.
• Provide a focus on academic achievement for TVCC students.
• Increase community involvement with TVCC students.
• Foster deeper connections between Terrell, Kaufman, Athens, Palestine, and dual credit students. (The symposium would be hosted by rotating TVCC campuses in Athens, Terrell, and Palestine yearly, with dual credit and embedded faculty encouraged to participate.)
• Gain regional recognition from other colleges within the second and third years by offering invitations for their students to join.

Students and faculty are encouraged to think of ways they can connect classroom instruction to service opportunities in their communities and demonstrate skills they have developed. This is known as Applied Learning Opportunities.
We are striving to recognize the knowledge students bring to the learning environment and connect with communities and seek real-life experiences. By encouraging students to participate in the Learning Symposium, we are asking students to apply what they are learning to a whole task in a form that is relevant and appropriate to their goals and skills. Areas in which to frame a project include, but are not limited to: Service Learning/Community Service, Research/Field Study, Arts, Leadership, Civil Engagement, and Internships.

A panel of judges volunteer and are present during the symposium to view displays and participate during the demonstrations. Students’ submissions are judged within two categories:
• Most Impactful: $500 award
• Most Creative: $500 award

MSI is a jam-packed five-week program held during the month of July exclusively for incoming freshmen students at the University of St. Thomas. The Institute helps our newest Celts prepare for the rigors of UST. When not in class, students build meaningful friendships with fellow incoming freshmen as well as with established Mendenhall Mentors by going on excursions around Houston and activities beyond the classroom.

By the end of July, students will have completed 6 elective credit hours, will have received a head start applying to on-campus jobs, and will be more confident in their abilities to thrive at UST.

Ms. Mendenhall, who founded MSI 15 years ago, gives 30 students in the Institute a $1,000 per semester for up to 8 semesters scholarship. These scholarships are distributed based on need and participation in the program.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: We have found that students who participate in Mendenhall retain at a significantly higher rate than their peers. Our Mendenhallers retain at about a 94% rate and go on to graduate higher than their peers as well. Additionally, our students assume leadership roles more regularly than their peers because of their level of comfort with the institution.

Opportunity Tuition Waiver

The Opportunity Tuition Waiver covers the cost of tuition and general fees at Western Texas College for high school graduates from Scurry County schools. High School graduates must be registered in at least twelve (12) credit hours for the fall semester immediately following his/her graduation and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75. To qualify for the waiver, graduates must complete the OTW application, contract, and 40 hours of volunteer service at approved volunteer sites in Scurry County communities. To continue receiving the waiver, students must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher and complete another 40 hours of service to the community. The waiver only covers the cost of credits earning students a certificate or degree. The Opportunity Tuition Waiver covers tuition and certain fees (building and general use fees only) for a maximum of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester for Scurry County high school graduates and twelve (12) credit hours per semester for Scurry County Dual Credit students.

"Power Up + Tech Up Program aims to equip students with the power (soft) and technical skills that will empower them to initiate well-paying and rewarding careers. The program features online, self-paced training programs that lead to certifications and industry-recognized credentials in power and technical skills. Students access these programs free of charge through our partnerships with CareerSpots, Revature (a tech talent firm), Google and Coursera.

Power Up + Tech Up aims to provide a co-curricular opportunity for transfer students to gain power skills experience and industry-recognized credentials and articulate these skills as they land their first jobs upon graduation. Objectives of the Power Up + Tech Up Program include increased knowledge and awareness of power skills, an increase in participation in technical skills training and certification programs by the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) students by twenty percent, and an 80% employment rate of Power Up + Tech Up students within the first three months of graduation.

The Power Up + Tech Up Program targets transfer students from UTA’s three largest college partners—Collin College, Dallas College, and Tarrant County College. UTA has excellent relationships with all three colleges and will continue to strengthen the connection through the enhanced services provided to these students participating in the program. Students from all majors will be encouraged to participate. "

Jarvis has instituted a variety of programs to increase the affordability of degree attainment and student completion.

Project Comeback is a one-time opportunity that affords stopped-out students a second chance at earning a degree. For qualifying students, prior balances are forgiven in order to increase the capacity of students to return to college and complete their degree without the onerous challenge of paying past and current debt. Balance forgiveness is contingent upon degree completion.

The current eligibility criteria includes:
--current debt must be $10,000 or greater;
--have a current GPA of 2.0 or greater;
--be eligible to receive financial aid or pay out-of-pocket; and
--have not been enrolled in college for at least 5 years.

The University of St. Thomas (UST) Rising Stars Internship Program is designed to serve disadvantaged students with the resources they need to succeed in their academic endeavors while gaining hands-on experience to prepare them for the workforce upon graduation. Students in the Rising Stars program are paired with a corporate sponsor and work as an intern during the academic year to earn funds toward tuition. The funds from the internship, combined with the Rising Stars scholarship, and federal and state educational grants, allow students to attend UST with a little out-of-pocket cost for tuition.Through the Rising Stars program, students are empowered to reach their academic and personal goals by staying enrolled in and graduating from UST, along with developing the skills needed to be successful in a corporate environment. The Rising Stars Internship Program supports its students’ success through customized programming, professional development training, mentorship opportunities, and educational experiences.

PROGRAM SCALE: Large-scale (reaches more than 25 percent of its intended target population)

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: The retention rate for first generation/low S.E.S. students in the program exceeds 87%. Furthermore, there is an incremental increase in GPA of .10 for students that stay in the program.

The Stay the Course (STC) program is designed to help low-income community college students overcome barriers to college completion. STC provides comprehensive case management services to low-income community college students with the goal of helping them persist in school and obtain their degree or certificate. The program provides one-on-one support to aid in the development of academic goals, use of services within the learning ecosystem and support/assistance to identify and mitigate barriers outside the scope of services provided by the institution that negatively impact students learning and success.

PROGRAM SCALE: Small-scale (reaches fewer than 10 percent of its target population)

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: Data provided for Stay the Course is collected an analyzed external to TCC. Reports provided by Stay the Course for Fall 2022 - Spring 2023 highlight a total of 463 students participated in the program. Of these, more than 250 were students who were new to the program in 2022-2023 academic year. Reports noted that a majority of students in the program earned less than $21,000 annually. A total of 59 credentials were earned, participants had a nearly 90% course success rate and an 85% persistence rate.

For TVCC, Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) has a single overarching goal: To provide the optimal number of students for every part of the college, based on the college mission and capacities. To do that, SEM initiatives influence students in three areas: 1) Recruitment, 2) Retention, and 3) Student Satisfaction.

Responsible for implementing process within those three areas is the SEM Committee. This is a large, campus-wide committee with a very wide reach. Each member of the SEM committee also oversee a subcommittee that has a particular purpose within the overall SEM structure. For example, our subcommittees include: Retention, Diversity and Inclusion, Recruitment, Campus Beautification, Safety and Security, Workforce, etc. These committees were chosen after an extensive SWOT analysis.

SEM touches every area of campus, touching every service and activity from the time a student makes an inquiry through a student's graduation into alumni status.

At TVCC we began with a SWOT analysis of our current position within the market and determined four focus areas for our first year of the SEM project. (We also incorporated project management training for all SEM members.) The four focus areas for our first year were: 1) Building necessary infrastructure in all areas, 2) Ensure safety guidelines are met on all campuses, 3) Grow retention and recruitment, and 4) Detangle confusing student processes.

We have been working on these four focus areas for the last year. We have been successful in all four areas. We are now shift into our second year of SEM, where collection and use of data will become paramount.

Our ultimate goal through SEM is to have our optimal number of students on all campuses and in all activities, including academics.
