The Opportunity Tuition Waiver covers the cost of tuition and general fees at Western Texas College for high school graduates from Scurry County schools. High School graduates must be registered in at least twelve (12) credit hours for the fall semester immediately following his/her graduation and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75. To qualify for the waiver, graduates must complete the OTW application, contract, and 40 hours of volunteer service at approved volunteer sites in Scurry County communities. To continue receiving the waiver, students must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher and complete another 40 hours of service to the community. The waiver only covers the cost of credits earning students a certificate or degree. The Opportunity Tuition Waiver covers tuition and certain fees (building and general use fees only) for a maximum of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester for Scurry County high school graduates and twelve (12) credit hours per semester for Scurry County Dual Credit students.

The Priddy Foundation Scholars Program provides scholarships for first generation students, in addition to supporting students throughout their four years of education at Midwestern State University. Opportunities for "The Priddy Scholars" include student success workshops, career planning assistance and study abroad. Program activities include the following:

First year: Reside in a first-year residence hall. Participate in a first-year learning community. Participate in weekly meetings covering topics such as time management, money management, working with up to date technology, and study skills. Complete an interest inventory and work with the professional staff in the Career Management Center to select a major.

Sophomore year: Reside in a scholar community in Legacy Hall. Select and complete a community service project as a group. Work with the Career Management Center on career options.

The Primary Care Pathway Program (PCPP) is a partnership between the University of North Texas Health Science Center, University of North Texas, Midland College and Midland Memorial Hospital. The program seeks to provide physicians in the Midland-Odessa and West Texas region by offering an accelerated pathway from a community college to an osteopathic medical school. Students complete their first two years at Midland College, the third year at the University of North Texas, and the final four years at the University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to the accelerated curriculum, the program provides advisement and experiences to prepare students for the rigors of medical school. Jarvis has instituted a variety of programs to increase the affordability of degree attainment and student completion.

Project Comeback is a one-time opportunity that affords stopped-out students a second chance at earning a degree. For qualifying students, prior balances are forgiven in order to increase the capacity of students to return to college and complete their degree without the onerous challenge of paying past and current debt. Balance forgiveness is contingent upon degree completion.

The current eligibility criteria includes:
--current debt must be $10,000 or greater;
--have a current GPA of 2.0 or greater;
--be eligible to receive financial aid or pay out-of-pocket; and
--have not been enrolled in college for at least 5 years.

Rainy Day Savings Program

The Rainy Day Savings Program is designed to help students set aside $500+ within one academic year for a financial emergency. Students open a savings account at our partner credit union and earn up to $100 in cash deposits for doing things like completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meeting with a financial coach. Money in the account can be used for a financial emergency as defined by the individual student. The account is intended to be an easy-to-access quick source of cash when a student experiences a financial emergency. Besides being prepared for a financial emergency, students gain first-hand experience managing a bank account, setting savings goals, and budgeting. The program is open to degree-seeking students enrolled in 6+ credit hours in the semester of program application and who intend to enroll in 6+ credit hours in the subsequent semester. Targeted outreach is conducted to engage students who are Pell and work-study eligible (however, eligiblity for these two forms of financial aid is not a requirement of participation).

PRELIMINARY OUTCOMES DATA: An evaluation of the first year of the Rainy Day Saving Programs found that program participants grew their savings by an average of $449. The evaulation also suggested significant program impacts on fall-to-spring retention for Hispanic students and students with jobs, and credential attainment for female students.

Retention and Remediation in the School of Health Careers

There are eight programs in the School of Health Careers at Angelina College and each program requires specific prerequisite and corequisite courses. Retention and remediation has two major goals: (1)orientation camp for all students entering programs (2) general requirements of mandatory remediation for any student who is not successful in a unit exam or in a clinical/practicum area.

The target population is a student currently enrolled in one of the eight programs. During orientation camp, a risk factors survey is obtained and even prior to being unsuccessful, the student may be seen by faculty to provide strategies to avoid dropping below the passing benchmark. Identified risk factors include but are not limited to (1) first-generation college student; (2) responsibility for children or other family members (e.g. parents); (3) English as a Second language; (4) employment part-time or full time; (5) socio-economic status; (5) entering overall GPA at the 2.5 level; (6) geographical location in relationship to the main campus.

The University of St. Thomas (UST) Rising Stars Internship Program is designed to serve disadvantaged students with the resources they need to succeed in their academic endeavors while gaining hands-on experience to prepare them for the workforce upon graduation. Students in the Rising Stars program are paired with a corporate sponsor and work as an intern during the academic year to earn funds toward tuition. The funds from the internship, combined with the Rising Stars scholarship, and federal and state educational grants, allow students to attend UST with a little out-of-pocket cost for tuition.Through the Rising Stars program, students are empowered to reach their academic and personal goals by staying enrolled in and graduating from UST, along with developing the skills needed to be successful in a corporate environment. The Rising Stars Internship Program supports its students’ success through customized programming, professional development training, mentorship opportunities, and educational experiences.

The Scholar Enrichment Program (SEP) includes the TC Energy Summer Scholars Academy (SSA) and 1 credit hour supplemental instruction workshops supporting freshman level STEM courses. Low-income students from predominately minority serving high schools are recruited through site visits to their campuses, information sessions, email, and phone calls. All eligible students, however, are welcome to apply. During the SSA, students complete Calculus 1 and receive instruction in chemistry and college success. In the fall, students transition into the SEP where they receive continued mentoring, are placed in Collaborative Learning Groups for their STEM classes, and participate in career development activities. SSA students are encouraged to take on leadership roles as tutors, peer facilitators, and mentors as they advance through their studies. All students at the University are welcome to enroll in the SEP workshops that utilize peer facilitators to guide students through team-based problem-solving sessions to master challenging course material. Between 900-1000 students per semester enroll. The program is supported in part by a National Science Foundation Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation grant, the University of Houston, TC Energy, Conoco Phillips, Halliburton, and alumni donors.

Eligibility Requirements

Incoming, first-time college students with a 3.4 or higher GPA* who are from families with annual incomes of $50,000 or less may take advantage of this offer; OR
Incoming transfer students with a college GPA of 3.5 of higher who are from families with annual incomes of $50,000 or less may take advantage of this offer.

Eligible students must be a Texas resident and must file the FAFSA form and must be eligible for federal and state aid. UST’s FAFSA Code is 003654. This St. Thomas Promise of free tuition also includes free tutorial services plus a student success coach to help ensure a successful transition to college.

The St. Thomas Promise is renewable for up to four years, providing family income remains in the same qualifying range.

The Stay the Course (STC) program is designed to help low-income community college students overcome barriers to college completion. STC provides comprehensive case management services to low-income community college students with the goal of helping them persist in school and obtain their degree or certificate. The program provides one-on-one support to aid in the development of academic goals, use of services within the learning ecosystem and support/assistance to identify and mitigate barriers outside the scope of services provided by the institution that negatively impact students learning and success.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: Data provided for Stay the Course is collected an analyzed external to TCC. Reports provided by Stay the Course for Fall 2022 - Spring 2023 highlight a total of 463 students participated in the program. Of these, more than 250 were students who were new to the program in 2022-2023 academic year. Reports noted that a majority of students in the program earned less than $21,000 annually. A total of 59 credentials were earned, participants had a nearly 90% course success rate and an 85% persistence rate.

The Store is Baylor University's on-campus food pantry - a resource available to all enrolled Baylor University Students, but especially developed for our most underrepresented and high financial need students. Our objectives are both remedial and preventative.

Our remedial goals are primarily to ensure all Baylor Students have access to adequate food and nutrition while enrolled at Baylor, and that lack of access to food (or food insecurity) not become a barrier to retention. The Store gives students unlimited access to fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, milk, eggs, pantry staples, snacks and personal hygiene products (including diapers for students who are parents of young children). Students are also connected to additional resources include allocating them with donated meal swipes they can use at our on-campus dining facilities, referring them to SNAP application assistance professionals, and other community and campus resources.

Another remedial focus of the Store is to tackle feelings of shame, social isolation, and a lack of belonging. We do this through community meals, advocacy and other events.

Our preventative objectives are focused on advocating for structural, systemic and policy changed that will create resilience to food insecurity for our 'campus ecosystem' as a whole, and mitigate food insecurity risk factors for individual students within it. Our goals include securing universal access to public transport for all enrolled students, advocating for efficient routes to and from the grocery store, and identifying and understanding other vulnerabilities of our campus eco-system and developing programs and resources to mitigate them.

Our program has created numerous collaborative and cross-discipline experiential learning opportunities for students through internship opportunities for student social workers, dietetics and nutrition, and public health students. Additionally, we provide many classes (like marketing, public relations, etc.) with numerous experiential learning opportunities in the form of semester-long practical projects or assignments.

Student Experience Internship Program

Rebranded and launched in 2020, the Student Experience Internship (SEI) Program, formerly known as Student Employment Initiative, was created through the Career Center in partnership between Office of Student Success, Human Resources, Dean of Students, and Academic Advising. The SEI Program is an initiative that provides on-campus internship opportunities for undergraduate students to grow in skill, expand in learning, and realize their potential through an enriched internship experience.

The Student Experience Internship Program will:

1. Allow colleges and departments of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to develop and offer quality internship experiences with learning outcomes related to a student's field of study
2. Provide opportunities for department supervisors, faculty, and mentors to train and guide SEI talent throughout the entire program
3. Allow students to engage with faculty, staff, and peers of different backgrounds and acquire social, cultural, and ethical development
4. Positively impact our students' time to graduate
5. Offer student the opportunity to obtain knowledge and experience that will be beneficial to their career and professional development
6. Provide students with skill development and improve their leadership abilities

Student Financial Wellness helps Baylor students develop personal money management capabilities, explore their financial values, connect to economic and material supports, and grow in Christian economic ethics for a lifetime of financial well-being. Student Financial Wellness services include online tools and resources, personal finance presentations and workshops, referrals to basic needs and campus resources, and coaching provided by peer coaches and professional staff. Peer Student Money Management Coaches offer one-on-one appointments to help fellow Baylor students review their personal financial situations, create financial goals, and set up a financial action plan. Peer Coaches provide education on budgeting, building healthy credit, debt repayment, banking, saving, major purchases, basics of investing, basics of insurance, and more.

DELIVERY FORMAT: The program has a hybrid format or has both online and in-person components.
