Austin Community College’s new, all-inclusive scholarship program supports students focused on starting a career immediately after ACC. Career Scholars receive financial and academic support while working toward a certificate or associate degree in an approved area of study. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees — for a total of $5,000 disbursed over a period of up to 3 years — and ensures recipients have the guidance and support they need to reach their goals. Career Scholars builds holistic support services around the students, with rich career service resources and academic support in an effort to 1) alleviate financial barriers that often prevent underserved student populations from attaining a higher ed credential; 2) support students academically while enhancing their career skills, and 3) give students exposure to potential internships with industry partners in their area of study. The unique Career Scholars program serves two categories of students: graduating high school seniors and current ACC adult learners. Participants in the High School Career Scholars program work toward a certificate or associate degree in a field that was identified by the Texas Workforce Commission as having high demand and earning potential. The Academic Success Center's embedded tutoring program provides equitable access to academic support by aligning support between the instructor, the tutor, and the course content. Embedded tutors provide support to students enrolled in gateway courses such as MATH 1314 College Algebra, CHEM 1411 General Chemistry I, MATH 1420 Calculus, and more. The Academic Success Center identifies potential equity gaps in end-of-course outcomes and provides scaffolded and aligned academic support using in- and out-of-class tutoring. The Ascender program began at Austin Community College in 2015. The mission of the program is to increase the educational attainment of Latinx students and other underserved communities in order to close equity gaps. That is, the Ascender program seeks to move ACC from a Hispanic serving institution to a Hispanic graduating institution by accelerating Latinx students, who are overrepresented in developmental education, to college-level coursework, and providing a structure of support to increase persistence and graduation. Ascender provides students with the academic, social, and leadership opportunities they need to graduate from community college, transfer and earn bachelor's degrees, and return to the community as leaders and mentors. The Ascender program is structured as a first-year experience program that provides wrap-around services including academic, student success, and community engagement components. Familia is at the heart of each component of the program. For instance, students move through their coursework as a learning community, developing affective and social bonds that ease their transition to college. In addition to the learning communities that provide support in academic coursework, Ascender hosts events, such as the Noche de Familia (family night), field trips to colleges/universities, motivational conferences, and other cultural events to further cohere the sense of belonging students feel at ACC. Because many Ascender students are first-generation college students, Ascender provides one-on-one mentoring through a volunteer mentoring program designed to introduce students to a network of role models and coaches that helps guide their first-year college experience. The network of Ascender mentors helps to facilitate greater navigation of sometimes challenging institutional structures.

Blinn Navigators is a collaborative effort between student services and academic affairs to identify and connect trained staff and faculty with (1) students who have aged out of the foster care system and (2) students on academic probation with a GPA between 1.5 and 2.0 who are at risk of losing their financial aid. Bring Bobcats Back is a formal outreach to undergraduate stop-outs at Texas State University who have not completed their bachelor's degree. The program started in 2018 by targeting 350 seniors close to graduation but not enrolled in the past year. Due to early success, the university expanded the program in June 2020. The goal was to contact all undergraduate students who stopped out between 1990 and 2018. The list was checked through the National Student Clearinghouse database for degree completion at other institutions. The university developed an external partnership with ReUp Education to scale the operation. We did outreach to over 25,000 students who had attended in the past 28 years. Since 2020, we have enrolled 438 students, currently engaging 2,252 about returning, and 119 have graduated. We have 37 that have applied for May 2022 graduation. We have 256 students enrolled this spring. The persistence rate from fall to spring was 83%. The university applied for and received a three million reskilling grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to help remove financial barriers. This grant has allowed us to expand the reach to stop-outs, displaced workers, or those who want to reskill. Each semester, after census day, we add any new names for outreach. The feedback data from stop-outs is helping us to be more proactive with retention practices. The six-year graduation rate jumped by 2.8% since 2019. (2013 cohort 54%, 2014 Cohort 55%, and 2015 cohort 56.8%). We expect hundreds more students will enroll and graduate in the coming years from the Bring Bobcats Back initiative.

Calculus Success is a multi-pronged initiative to support students who are underprepared or otherwise identified as at risk for not passing their required calculus courses. There are four programs in this initiative:
1. Dedicated sections of first-semester calculus for students who do not demonstrate calculus-readiness, supported by undergraduate TAs, with a focus on collaborative learning using the Treisman Model
2. A paired-course model in which students take their first semester calculus course paired with a Signature Course (first-year seminar) course on critical thinking
3. Fall Reset - a program that identifies students who are not performing well in their first-year calculus course and offers them the opportunity to switch to a specially developed pre-calculus section for the remainder of the semester
4. Calculus corequisites - modeled after developmental education corequisites, students who do not demonstrate calculus-readiness are required, and students with other risk factors are invited, to enroll in a 1-hour credit support course for the first half of the semester. The focus of the course is peer-to-peer learning, community building, study skills, and content work.

Career Academy is a dual credit workforce program in a high demand career that leads to a college level 1 certificate while in high school or the summer immediately following high school graduation. Austin Community College offers five Career Academies to help you land an in-demand job as soon as possible in the field of construction, education, manufacturing, health sciences, or IT. Career Academy classes are intended for workforce entry, not university transfer. However, some credits may be applied toward an associate degree. Tuition and fees are waived for participating in-district students. Out-of-district students qualify for significant discounts and pay just $150 per course. These discounts are good for up to 12 courses, after which regular tuition and fees are assessed for both groups. Classes are taught by ACC faculty on ACC campuses (or virtually, when necessary).

The Career and Technical Education Robo Recruiter was designed as an outreach mechanism to attract prospective students for CTE Programs, specifically prospective students in special populations and nontraditional gender fields. The goal is to enhance awareness of Associate of Applied Science Degree program offerings at the Blinn College District while providing labor market information regarding these career fields. The Robo Recruiter has an engaging interface which students can select the career option they want to explore. Labor market information regarding the career and training available at Blinn will be provided through the interface. ACC makes childcare scholarships available to low-income student parents. The core features of the childcare scholarship program are 1) case management and 2) parent choice. Students who accept a childcare scholarship must agree to participate in intensive case management with a Student Advocate to help with clarity of goals and decisionmaking, referrals to additional supports and on-going problem-solving and personal support. Students who receive the scholarship may select the childcare provider of their choice. ACC arranges for payment directly with the provider. Students must pay the difference between the amount of their scholarship and the total cost of care charged by the provider. The goals of the childcare scholarships are 1) to improve the semester to semester persistence rates of student parents and 2) to improve the graduation rates of student parents. The Coordinated Care Network is a function of Navigate EAB and has been employed at SHSU as a retention-based partnership across several divisions. The Coordinated Care Network supports student success by bridging institutional efforts in receiving and triaging student alerts and referrals through Campus Connect (Navigate EAB). When faculty or staff issue an alert or referral, Campus Connect is configured to enact a chain of technology driven events to connect the student with the expert department who then provides appropriate intervention. Additionally, we target high-needs students to submit an alert or referral on themselves to receive assistance with their particular need(s). In the Course Transformation Project, a team of faculty who teach courses with traditionally high D/F/W rates work together to explore ways to improve student learning and performance in the course by incorporating student-centered, evidence-based design and teaching practices as well as disseminating and replicating best practices already in use by individual instructors. The director of the Office of Faculty Development serves as project facilitator. The project includes examining granular, disaggregated course data to identify design and pedagogical strengths and gaps. These data are used by the team to identify research-based design and pedagogical practices that address gaps and enhance strengths. The team integrates these identified practices into the course as disciplinary-appropriate interventions in a pilot phase of the project. In addition, the team designs and implements methods of assessing efficacy of the interventions during the pilot. The team meets weekly during the design stage of the project and monthly during the implementation stage to discuss findings and make any necessary adjustments.

The Dallas College Conversion Program seeks to ensure that specific populations maintain momentum when engaging the enrollment process. Specifically, it ensures that students who "apply and not enroll" are monitored and engaged. These are students that despite numerous traditional outreach attempts do not take action and are "stuck" in some part of the enrollment pipeline. Additionally, the program seeks to actively re-engage students that have stop-out/dropped-out in recent years (typically going back (2) two academic years) and intentionally connecting and providing very focused service supports for their anticipated return. The Dallas College Family Care Center will provide support to students who are parents or expectant parents that are underserved or first generation and economically disadvantaged population to provide wraparound services that includes a three-tier model. Tier one: Immediate physical and mental health needs that address potential crises situations, such as food, formula, or childcare insecurity, providing physical resources such as diapers, female and infant hygiene, safe car seats, or other needs. Some of the program supplies i.e. car seats, safety equipment will be free rentals, and stay within the college’s inventory for program sustainability. In addition, provide mental and emotional support including parenting support groups and early childhood parenting classes. Tier 2 would provide Financial Literacy and including classes on budget and credit management, saving and long-term financial planning for a sustainable lifestyle. Tier 3 would focus on academic and student support services working with Success Coaches and Career Counselors securing those students are on a pathway for success in their academic career ensuring their financial goals align realistically with their career choices and degree/transfer plans.

Dallas College's Student Care Network is a holistic care system with services and resources committed to helping students break down barriers to success beyond academic needs. The Student Care Network aims to empower students to reach self-actualization, breaking the cycle of generational poverty through a strong network of support. The Student Care Network puts students in touch with financial, food, medical, mental health, transportation, child care, housing or other resources to help them fulfill their basic needs and succeed in college. Each of the seven main campuses has counseling and health services, clothing closets, food pantries, and a broad network of community partners. Dallas College has doubled the number of licensed professional counselors and nurses available at each campus and has 16 Student Care Coordinators. Dallas College takes its support one step further, opening its food pantries and clothing closets to the community.

Success Coaching at Dallas College offers concierge-style case-management and support through a learning care model to improve the student experience, eliminate barriers, strengthen student persistence, completion, and success. Through proactive case management, success coaching guides learners through their academic journey by empowering and inspiring them with caring, relatable, knowledgeable, and accessible strategies.

All Dallas College students are assigned a success coach who help students navigate college life and keep them on track throughout their academic journey. Success coaches engage students in comprehensive and customized success planning to fit their individual needs. Success Coaches are responsible for helping to orient students to college life, guiding students through initial discussions on career exploration and first-year courses selections, leveraging technology to track student progress towards academic and career goals, and liaising between the student and a broad network of internal and external resources designed to provide wrap-around support and eliminate any barriers that could impact the student's success.

Students may access success coaching services in multiple modalities including scheduled appointments, walk-ins, online conferencing, phone, and email correspondence. Success coaching services are available Monday through Friday from 8am to 12midnight to ensure all students have equitable access to support services.

DELIVERY FORMAT: The program has a hybrid format or has both online and in-person components.

PROGRAM SCALE: Large-scale (reaches more than 25 percent of its intended target population)

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: Preliminary data from Fall 2022 shows that success coaching had a positive impact on persistence. Students in all categories (first time in college, continuing, transfer in, transient, charter, dual credit, early college high school) who scheduled appointment(s) with a success coach had higher persistence rates than students who did not meet with their coach. Students who scheduled two or more appointments with a success coach had even higher persistence rates.
