Hand In Hand Support Program is a student success program designed to promote retention, persistence, academic performance, and holistic well-being for students who have experienced foster care and other out-of-home experiences by providing a continuous system of support and resources. The program is administered by a Senior Manager and 7 Program Advocates, who work with a network of internal and external champions to address students' complicated needs for financial security, academic coaching, and emotional support for students aging out of foster care. Participating scholars receive professional guidance, educational support, and mentoring to ensure their retention from connection to completion.

First-year students at Texas A&M participate in Hullabaloo U – Texas A&M’s first-year experience course. Participation in a Hullabaloo U section helps first-year students develop skills to achieve academic and personal goals, take advantage of campus resources, develop community and a sense of belonging, and be equipped to contribute to our respectful and inclusive Aggie community. Every Hullabaloo U section is led by a faculty or staff instructor and an undergraduate peer mentor. Sections are limited to less than 30 first-year students. While there are a number of courses certified as a Hullabaloo U course, all share overarching common outcomes and a common student success curriculum.

In this era of increasing polarization, UNT’s mission of preparing students for the challenges they will meet in a world that is evolving rapidly has never been more important. A critical part of this preparation is helping students learn to consider and engage with different perspectives, and to be comfortable and confident expressing their own. Unfortunately, some students do not always feel included, nor that their experiences are valued. Indeed, some students often express doubt that they belong in the academic programs in which they are interested or even that they belong at a university at all. For the sake of all our students, it is incumbent on all of us that we carefully examine our policies and practices to ensure that they equitably support, affirm, and validate all students. During the 2021-22 academic year we asked faculty to gather input from students regarding how inclusive they feel the program curriculum is, asking questions such as how safe they feel in sharing their perspectives and how welcome they feel in the program. We then provided some guiding questions that individual faculty should consider and, together with the input gathered from students, asked them to reflect on their courses and teaching practices. Finally, we asked faculty in each program to consider together ways the overall program might be adjusted to encourage respectful and welcoming dialog, and then submit a narrative to their college’s dean detailing what steps they have taken so far and what further steps they have planned to support this mission.

SJC evaluates all students, unless they have an exemption, according to state guidelines for college readiness. Students that score less than developmental education levels (ABE) but do have a high school credential are placed in Intentional Connections learning communities to support their educational goals; after the initial implementation including intense career counseling, study skills, and INRW course work, these students enrolled in the learning community experienced a 70-75% successful completion rate to move into either the corequisites courses or even college level courses without support. This model has decreased enrollment in developmental education courses by 35%; students are moving to college level courses at a more rapid rate.

JumpStart is a supportive five week academic program designed to aid students towards meeting Texas’s College Readiness standards while enhancing their ability to access and connect with the vast resources and opportunities available within the university. JumpStart Scholars are incoming freshmen who are working towards meeting the Texas College Readiness standards. The purpose of the program is to create a network of resources for the participants. Guidance from peer mentors and personal tutors provide critical support. Students are connected with a network of UTRGV academic & campus resources, including Financial Aid, the Library, the Learning Center, Writing Center, and more. Each student is enrolled in developmental coursework based on their area(s) of need: 3 hours of integrated reading/writing and/or 3 hours of math. Students are also enrolled in a corresponding English 1301 and/or math course that is directly connected to their developmental education course which will help them apply what they’ve learned and be even better prepared to do well.

At LSC-Houston North, we put students first. Each first-time college student enrolled in EDUC 1300 Learning Frameworks course receives a faculty mentor to help guide them through their first semester. Upon completing EDUC 1300, students can opt in to an America Mentor program and be assigned a faculty or staff mentor. Our mentors are devoted to guiding our students and steering them in the right direction.

Each mentor will provide the following benefits:

Lone Star College-North Harris Mi Casa Es Su Casa (CASA) Empowering Hispanic Students to Connect, Acclimate, Succeed, and Achieve

Initially funded by a Title V grant for Hispanic-Serving Institutions from the US Department of Education, CASA is Connecting students to the campus community, Acclimating them to the rigors of academic life, helping them Succeed academically, and preparing them to Achieve and compete in college and beyond. The program guides students through the four CASA phases through three initiatives. Information Technology Enhanced Multidisciplinary Academic Learning Lounges (iMALLS) and the Center for Academic Advising and Transition (CAST) are designed to connect students to resources and opportunities to improve academic preparedness while Meaningfully Aligned Targeted Curriculum for Hispanic Students (MATCH) ensures students are receiving best-fit instruction based on proven methods. These three initiatives encompass twelve activities to engage students in research-based programs that facilitate in students a sense of belonging, influence, competence and efficacy. MATCH activities have assisted in increasing the number of students graduating with a degree or certificate within three years from a baseline of 14% to 26%. Hispanic completion was 25%. CAST tutoring and advising activities assisted in increasing the three-year transfer rate of students from a baseline of 6% to 12%. Hispanic transfer was 11%. iMALL activities have assisted in increasing the fall-to-fall persistence of FTIC fulltime students by 7% over the 2014 baseline of 50%. Hispanic student persistence was 61%.

The Global GRIT Experience (GGE) has a mission to infuse the principles of grit mindset and behaviors into local and global communities. The Male Alliance for a Rigorous, Transformative, and Interdisciplinary Approach to Learning (MARTIAL) is a Living Learning Community designed to improve the academic outcomes for African American men at UNT. Up to 20 incoming freshmen, known as MARTIAL Eagles, are invited to live together in Rawlins Hall while learning and leading together throughout their first year and beyond. This is primarily a first-year program during which participants enroll in a 3-hour first year seminar taught by program staff, prepare for classes during weekly group study sessions, and engage one another in a variety of community-building activities. Program staff work with students individually and in small groups, building relationships that foster trust so that they may walk alongside participants as they reach new milestones and work through inevitable challenges. Generally, the program aims to help students become familiar with campus, build a solid community of like-minded peers, and to reach their academic goal of graduating with a bachelor’s degree.

Men of Distinction at Lone Star College-Montgomery is a student success program that creates opportunities for male students at Lone Star College from underrepresented backgrounds and marginalized communities to get connected to academic success resources, student engagement programs, guided degree planning support and professional mentors. Mentor Tech, also known as the Lauro Cavazos and Ophelia Powell-Malone Mentorship Program ( MT), supports undergraduate and graduate students’ successful transition and continuation in college through mentoring relationships by pairing protégés (students) with university staff, faculty, and graduate students (mentors). Through these relationships, students gain university insight, personal & academic support networks, and professional development. Founded in 2002 and named after Dr. Lauro Cavazos and Ophelia Powell-Malone, Mentor Tech, was originally established to meet the mentoring needs of minoritized students, today, the program continues to serve the specific needs of first-generation, minoritized, and/or marginalized students. Mentor Tech intends for students to expand their network of support at Texas Tech by engaging with a faculty, staff, or graduate student mentor. Furthermore, the protégé and mentor work together to create a plan of action for the student's college journey based on their goals and aspirations.

This initiative aims to harness the effectiveness of evidence-informed interventions to target mood-related concerns. The goal is to provide campus-wide, multi-modal instruction and engagement in mindfulness, stress reduction, emotional intelligence, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training. This initiative consists of interactive video-based instruction, live workshops, curated on-demand campus reflection/relaxation spaces, self-help resources (individual and utilization in academic classes), campus focused MHFA, and an invited expert speaker or panel event. The expanded dissemination of prevention-focused skills training will serve as a buffer against more severe psychological distress and behavioral concerns, allow students to more fully engage in their academic pursuits/interpersonal relationships, as well as assist the participants in better identifying options to assist those experiencing psychological or emotional distress. These interventions are targeted for both the general student population and numerous smaller student populations that benefit from additional support/attention.

Operation College Bound is a partnership between El Paso Community College & The University of Texas at El Paso and school districts within the local region 19 service area. Both institutions conducted a region-wide tour of high schools (18 dates) from March 30 – to May 3, 2022. EPCC hosted the final date at their Administrative Services Center where students from ISDs not able to make previous events, charter schools, private schools, parochial schools, home-schooled students, as well as students who were unable to attend during an event at their school were invited. The intention of the OCB event is to take our services directly to the graduating seniors and to allow them to leave the event enrolled for the fall 2022 semester. All students attending the event would meet with Counselors and Advisors, Admissions and Registration, Financial Aid, and New Student Orientation. OCB is supported by an institutional budget.

Peer Mentors are here to help first-year students academically and socially transition to Texas State University during their first year. Peer Mentors are upperclassmen embedded in a first-year seminar course and meet with students twice a semester or more to facilitate a successful first year transition. Peer Mentors are certified through the College Reading and Learning Association International Peer Educator Training Program. Goals and objectives for the program include: maximize student academic and personal success, create a supportive environment, connect first-year students to campus resources, assist in fostering a student's sense of belonging to increase first-year retention rates.

Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) allows student to work in small groups of 8 facilitated by peers who have successfully passed the course. Students in PLTL work on practice problem sets developed by UTA faculty. PLTL sessions are facilitated once a week and attendance is mandatory. After a weekly meeting with faculty, PLTL Leaders will meet with the group throughout the entire semester to help with conceptual content and study skills.

DELIVERY FORMAT: The program is in-person only.

PROGRAM SCALE: Medium-scale (reaches between 10 and 25 percent of its target population)

PROGRAM OUTCOMES: The PLTL model was successful in decreasing the DFW rate in PLTL supported courses in 21-22. PLTL decreased DFW rates between 4% to 40% across courses. Supported courses are MATH 1426 (Calculus I), MATH 2425 (Calculus II), MATH 2326 (Calculus III), CHEM 1441 (General Chemistry I), CHEM 1442 (General Chemistry II) and CHEM 1465 (Chemistry for Engineers).

"Power Up + Tech Up Program aims to equip students with the power (soft) and technical skills that will empower them to initiate well-paying and rewarding careers. The program features online, self-paced training programs that lead to certifications and industry-recognized credentials in power and technical skills. Students access these programs free of charge through our partnerships with CareerSpots, Revature (a tech talent firm), Google and Coursera.

Power Up + Tech Up aims to provide a co-curricular opportunity for transfer students to gain power skills experience and industry-recognized credentials and articulate these skills as they land their first jobs upon graduation. Objectives of the Power Up + Tech Up Program include increased knowledge and awareness of power skills, an increase in participation in technical skills training and certification programs by the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) students by twenty percent, and an 80% employment rate of Power Up + Tech Up students within the first three months of graduation.

The Power Up + Tech Up Program targets transfer students from UTA’s three largest college partners—Collin College, Dallas College, and Tarrant County College. UTA has excellent relationships with all three colleges and will continue to strengthen the connection through the enhanced services provided to these students participating in the program. Students from all majors will be encouraged to participate. "
