Open Education Week Events from the Division of Digital Learning

Join the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s (THECB) Division of Digital Learning as we celebrate Open Education (OE) Week. Learn more about the resources and programs that the THECB provides to support and strengthen open education. We will be highlighting exciting new services and initiatives, such as the Open Educational Resources Nursing Essentials (O.N.E.) Project - in partnership with OpenStax, the Texas Student Success Program Inventory, and the Texas OER Playbook. Mark your calendars for March 6-10 and share this invitation with your faculty and staff to attend and learn more about open educational resources (OER) and open pedagogy.

Register for Building an Ecosystem on a Foundation of Excellence: Open Education Beyond Instruction: Tuesday, March 7, 2023, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. CST

This session will introduce a variety of creative ways in which OER have been utilized in Texas, in instruction and beyond. Additionally, a demo of current projects will take place including a deep dive into the OER Nursing Essentials Project (O.N.E.) – a collaborative effort between THECB and OpenStax, an introduction to the THECB’s Student Success Inventory, and the unveiling of the Texas OER Playbook.

Research to Resources: Collecting Useful Data to Inform OER Initiatives

This two-part session will introduce participants to THECB commissioned statewide OER research that provides the foundation for future resource development and program and service delivery. 

Register for Part 1: Research to Resources: Collecting Useful Data: Wednesday, March 8, 2023, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. CST

This first session will focus on the biennial Texas OER landscape survey, recent research studies on regional OER needs and available OER for high-impact courses. This session will present research questions, methodologies, and findings.  

Register for Part 2: Research to Resources: Informing OER Initiatives: Wednesday, March 8, 2023, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. CST

This second session will further explore the findings of the research to illustrate how the data can be used to design effective programs and services, encourage advocacy, and build stronger OER communities.  

Register for Through the Eyes of our Stakeholders: Faculty and Student Experiences with OER: Thursday, March 9, 2023, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. CST

In this session, participants will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of first-time and expert level faculty and student teams who have implemented methods of open pedagogy.  The robust conversation will provide insight into the lived experiences of those actively engaged in OER.
