Building Bridges to Success (BBS) is part of the nationwide TRIO Student Support Services program funded by the Department of Education. The BBS program at Galveston College is designed to provide academic and student support services for approximately 206 first-generation, low-income students, and students with disabilities. The goals of BBS are to increase student retention in classes, completion of certificates and degrees, graduation from college, and transfer to universities. Services include: -academic advising and degree planning, -course selection and registration -academic tutoring -personal and career guidance -financial aid and scholarship information -economic and financial literacy education and resources -transfer assistance. Interested students must complete an application to determine eligibility and an orientation to be considered an active participant for the program.

PRELIMINARY OUTCOMES DATA: In the 2019-2020 academic year, the persistence rate of students serviced by the program was 89%. Additionally, 97% of students in the program were considered in good academic standing at the college.

Food for Thought is a partnership between Galveston College, Galveston County Food Bank, and Catholic Charities USA. GC students access fresh produce, meats, and other groceries on the GC main campus and ATC off-campus site, enabling them to save money for other necessities and to maintain their focus on school.

PRELIMINARY OUTCOMES DATA: Prior to COVID-19 in the Spring of 2019 and during COVID-19 through the Spring of 2021, completion rates, pass rates, and success rates for the Food For Thought GC student cohort were slightly above the GC student body and withdrawal rates for the Food For Thought GC student cohort were slightly lower than the GC student body. The 2021 Trellis Research Student Financial Wellness Survey also indicated that only 21% of students had very low food insecurity, a decline from prior years.

The purpose of the MSI was to teach men to become leaders within their families and communities. The mission of the group is to enhance and better male students at Galveston College by providing academic support along with professional and personal development. The MSI worked on efforts toward academic, personal, and professional initiatives to enhance the lives and experiences of the group membership as well as the greater campus community. These initiatives include but are not limited to, community service projects, conferences, on-campus workshops, networking events, and academic support tools.
