Peer Mentors are here to help first-year students academically and socially transition to Texas State University during their first year. Peer Mentors are upperclassmen embedded in a first-year seminar course and meet with students twice a semester or more to facilitate a successful first year transition. Peer Mentors are certified through the College Reading and Learning Association International Peer Educator Training Program. Goals and objectives for the program include: maximize student academic and personal success, create a supportive environment, connect first-year students to campus resources, assist in fostering a student's sense of belonging to increase first-year retention rates.

Project Maestros is a title V HSI grant funded program from the Department of Education. Project Maestros seeks to enhance the transfer student and teacher pipelines. Maestros provides transfer navigation for all prospective and incoming transfer students; this includes individual appointments and credit evaluation. Maestros supports pre-service teachers at Texas State University through professional development seminars focused on culture, community, and communication in the classroom. We offer certification exam test preparation options throughout the academic year as well. Maestros will be grant funded through AY 2023-2024 and efforts will be institutionalized by the Transfer Center and College of Education following grant funding.

The University of St. Thomas (UST) Rising Stars Internship Program is designed to serve disadvantaged students with the resources they need to succeed in their academic endeavors while gaining hands-on experience to prepare them for the workforce upon graduation. Students in the Rising Stars program are paired with a corporate sponsor and work as an intern during the academic year to earn funds toward tuition. The funds from the internship, combined with the Rising Stars scholarship, and federal and state educational grants, allow students to attend UST with a little out-of-pocket cost for tuition.Through the Rising Stars program, students are empowered to reach their academic and personal goals by staying enrolled in and graduating from UST, along with developing the skills needed to be successful in a corporate environment. The Rising Stars Internship Program supports its students’ success through customized programming, professional development training, mentorship opportunities, and educational experiences.

The Texas College STEP (Summer Transition Enrichment Program) is a five-week summer residential program that prepares incoming freshmen to become successful in their chosen academic fields at Texas College. The program is designed to provide these students with an immersion experience illuminating the life of an effective college student from an academic and social perspective.

Our St. Thomas Promise is a huge opportunity allowing eligible students to attend at no cost and will change their lives and financial situations! The program is right in line with the University of St. Thomas Catholic mission.

Eligibility Requirements

Incoming, first-time college students with a 3.4 or higher GPA* who are from families with annual incomes of $50,000 or less may take advantage of this offer; OR
Incoming transfer students with a college GPA of 3.5 of higher who are from families with annual incomes of $50,000 or less may take advantage of this offer.

Eligible students must be a Texas resident and must file the FAFSA form and must be eligible for federal and state aid. UST’s FAFSA Code is 003654. This St. Thomas Promise of free tuition also includes free tutorial services plus a student success coach to help ensure a successful transition to college.

The St. Thomas Promise is renewable for up to four years, providing family income remains in the same qualifying range.

The Store is Baylor University's on-campus food pantry - a resource available to all enrolled Baylor University Students, but especially developed for our most underrepresented and high financial need students. Our objectives are both remedial and preventative.

Our remedial goals are primarily to ensure all Baylor Students have access to adequate food and nutrition while enrolled at Baylor, and that lack of access to food (or food insecurity) not become a barrier to retention. The Store gives students unlimited access to fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, milk, eggs, pantry staples, snacks and personal hygiene products (including diapers for students who are parents of young children). Students are also connected to additional resources include allocating them with donated meal swipes they can use at our on-campus dining facilities, referring them to SNAP application assistance professionals, and other community and campus resources.

Another remedial focus of the Store is to tackle feelings of shame, social isolation, and a lack of belonging. We do this through community meals, advocacy and other events.

Our preventative objectives are focused on advocating for structural, systemic and policy changed that will create resilience to food insecurity for our 'campus ecosystem' as a whole, and mitigate food insecurity risk factors for individual students within it. Our goals include securing universal access to public transport for all enrolled students, advocating for efficient routes to and from the grocery store, and identifying and understanding other vulnerabilities of our campus eco-system and developing programs and resources to mitigate them.

Our program has created numerous collaborative and cross-discipline experiential learning opportunities for students through internship opportunities for student social workers, dietetics and nutrition, and public health students. Additionally, we provide many classes (like marketing, public relations, etc.) with numerous experiential learning opportunities in the form of semester-long practical projects or assignments.

The Student Support Services (SSS) program is designed to assist undergraduate students who are first generation, low-income, or who have disabilities. The goal is to facilitate good academic standing, retention, and graduation of undergraduate students at Midwestern State University. SSS participants receive academic tutoring; advice and assistance in postsecondary course selection; information on Federal student financial aid (FAFSA) programs, including resources for locating public and private scholarships; assistance in completing financial aid applications; workshops designed to improve financial and economic literacy, including financial planning for postsecondary education; engagement in a peer mentoring program; and activities designed to assist participants in applying for admission to and obtaining financial assistance for enrollment in graduate or professional programs. The TRIO Student Support Services program (SSS) at Sul Ross State University is a student retention program funded by the U.S. Department of Education that serves 160 students per year.

The mission of the Student Support Services program is to provide supportive educational services that will assist students with an academic need that are low income, first generation, or have a documented disability to acquire a university college degree.

The program offers academic advising, career/major counseling, personal support, classroom instruction, academic workshops, tutoring, financial aid counseling, new student extended orientation, graduate admission assistance, social/cultural activities, and much more.

Susan Harwood Grants are awarded to provide training and education programs for employers and workers on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces and to inform workers of their rights and employers of their responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act. Targeted Topic grants focus on training workers and employers on occupational safety and health hazards associated with one of the selected OSHA-selected training topics. OSHA selected topics vary from year to year and are selected based on fatal statistics, national emphasis programs, and pending regulations. Topics are separated into general industry, construction, and other. Safety is paramount, especially in the warehousing field which employs more than half a million people across the nation. South Texas College's goal is to help to reduce the number of work-related accidents, injuries, and deaths in STC’s service area by conducting training in the Targeted Topic of Warehousing. Today, more than ever, building a strong pipeline of skilled American workers is critical for companies to grow their business and compete in the 21st century global economy. Top companies and organizations are leading the way in developing and training a world-class workforce by partnering with Apprenticeship USA. Apprenticeship USA is a way for companies to document, organize, and showcase their current work-based learning and apprenticeship programs that meet industry and national standards for registration with the U.S Department of Labor. Apprenticeship USA promotes flexible apprenticeship models that can be customized to meet the needs of nearly every type of business and is integrated into existing training and human resource development practices. The TJC Promise encourages students at 18 East Texas high schools in the College's tax district to perform well academically in high school and college, while limiting their number of missed school days and promoting community service. Participants sign up for the program in the ninth grade and upon successful completion of the program's requirements, have the assurance that their tuition and fees will be underwritten at TJC for up to two years. This is done through a combination of grants, TJC scholarships, and funds from the Promise program.

For over two decades, the TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program at Frank Phillips College (FPC) has promoted student success by helping students to overcome the barriers that might otherwise prevent them from achieving their goals. This federally-funded Title IV program serves 165 students annually who are first generation, low-income (as defined by federal income standards), and/or are students with a documented disability or impairment. The primary goal of the TRiO SSS program is to give our students every possible tool to express their full potential here at FPC and beyond. The Navarro College TRIO SSS program annually serves 300 low income, first generation, and or students with a disability. The Tarrant To & Through Partnership aims to ensure more Tarrant County students have the training and skills they need to thrive in today’s workforce. The Tarrant To & Through (T3) Partnership commits to: 1) Supporting your student on their journey to graduate high school; 2) Helping them create a customized plan for life after high school; 3) Ensuring they complete a degree or credential to attain a meaningful career and living-wage job. When your student takes the T3 Pledge, we'll help them build a customized plan focused on life after high school called a "Postsecondary Success Plan". If eligible, your student will have access to a variety of supports such as: A T3 Last Dollar Scholarship covers any remaining tuition costs after all Pell grants and/or other federal, state, or institutional aid have been applied. In other words, last dollar scholarships cover the gap -- any last dollars needed to cover the student's tuition. The UTA and T3 partnership serves Fort Worth ISD students by offering personalized guidance and programming throughout high school into college, helping students achieve a world class degree. Become a T3 Scholar by completing the T3 Partnership Pledge by the T3 pledge deadline of your senior year of high school. T3 Scholars attending UTA who meet all eligibility requirements will also receive funding covering the cost of classes (tuition) that federal, state, or other institutional grants or scholarships do not.

It is a team of veterans and university administrators whose secondary missions are taking care of our VETS Center's student clientele, to include their development both academically and personally, as well as providing collaborative assistance in support of our students and the university in general to the other sections of Student Affairs, the Faculty and Academic Affairs Division, the External Affairs Division, and the Finance Division.

The VETS Center endeavors to live up to our university’s core values every day. We expect integrity both from our employees and our student clientele and when shortcomings are identified, we mentor our people on the best ways to do and be better in the future. The military (both those active and those that have completed their contracted service) live in an incredibly diverse environment. This continues in the VETS Center. We work to develop our clientele to be part of an organization, and as a team we care most about what the individual can do to help the team succeed. Higher education is a pathway that can change the future, not just for our students, but their families as well. When our students graduate and move on to their careers, we know we have made an impact on their lives.

PRELIMINARY OUTCOMES DATA: The average first-year retention rate of VETS Center students is 68.7%, roughly 12 percentage points higher than that of the overall student body. VETS Center students also have a six-year graduation rate of 57.5%, compared to an institutional average of 37%.

Weatherford College’s (WC) International Student Organization (ISO) serves as a vehicle to ensure that our international students are given the extra support needed to have a successful learning experience at Weatherford College. ISO partners with International Student Inc. (a national organization), c2 (a community-based organization), and local churches to serve WC’s international students.

Our ISO:
- Helps to build camaraderie among the international students
- Helps to connect international students to other non- international students
- Provides mentoring to international students via faculty, staff, student peer mentors and community members.
- Provides engaging and meaningful events and activities for international students on campus and in the community.
- Provides international students with the opportunity to learn more about the Weatherford community first hand
- Provides international students with the opportunity to volunteer in the community.
- Provides international students with the opportunity to learn more about our community through cultural field trips
- Provides international students with the opportunity to visit four year universities in case they wish to continue their education after completing Weatherford College.
- Provides international students with the opportunity to help foster global citizenship in the community.

In January 2021, the University of Texas at Arlington launched the eLearning Transformational Model (eLearning TM) program to build the foundation for sustainable and scalable transformation into a dynamic, digitally enhanced and responsive university. UTA’s eLearning TM efforts align to provide exceptional contribution to the Building a Talent Strong Texas plan, specifically in areas of increasing attainment of postsecondary credentials for adult learners and streamlining student academic and career pathways through innovative course and program redesign and enhanced support services that lead to increased credentials of value.

The eLearning TM team utilized a structured, holistic approach to supporting the implementation of a set of six short-term micro-credential (certificate) programs in high-demand employment areas (health informatics, diversity and inclusion in business, logistics engineering, military social work, and learning technologies) designed for adult learners. The 90+ members of the cross-campus eLearning team coordinated to launch these certificate programs and simultaneously identified a need for and launched eight parallel projects to provide robust and high-quality course and faculty development; offer flexible teaching and learning options through modernized technology and facilities; deliver enhanced market analysis to programs for recruitment; harness data for targeted support of learners across instructional modalities to close achievement and equity gaps.
