The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) welcomes applications for participation in the second cohort of the Open Educational Resources (OER) Core Elements Academy. We are offering an academy this fall, in partnership with the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management (ISKME), in response to positive feedback from the first academy held in June 2021. Full and part-time faculty, librarians, and instructional designers at public and private higher education institutions that are new to OER or with intermediate experience are invited to participate.

The OER Core Elements Academy will consist of three synchronous, virtual sessions:

Monday, October 25, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. CST: Introduction to Open Educational Resources and Practices - Exploration of the what, why, and how of OER, highlighting use cases involving successful adoption and implementation of OER at Texas institutions.

Monday, November 1, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. CST: Discovery and Curation - Hands-on training aimed at supporting effective search, quality evaluation, and curation strategies to collaboratively identify, evaluate, and organize OER relevant to desired use.

Monday, November 8, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. CST: Authoring and Remixing - Deep dive into courseware improvement, developing collaborative workflows to utilize authoring tools to design, create and remix resources. Leverage supports for peer-review, reflection, and refinement of resources. Participants will have assignments to complete between synchronous sessions.

Opportunities for office hours for additional support and informal discussion with OER experts will also be offered.

Participants will be expected to attend all sessions and complete approximately 7 hours of practice activities to find, curate, publish, and share OER. Applicants will be selected for participation based on their commitment to attending all sessions and interest in learning more about how OER can be used in their courses. The workshop will be limited to 50 participants. Participants will be eligible for a Certificate of Completion upon fulfillment of all requirements.

Please share with full and part-time faculty, librarians, and instructional designers at public and private higher education institutions that are new to OER or have intermediate experience.

Register at: OER Core Academy. Application will close once the capacity threshold has been reached or on October 20, 2021.
