Good evening! I am absolutely thrilled about the unwavering commitment our institution has shown towards the expansion of Open Educational Resources. I cannot contain my excitement after immersing myself in the OER Texas Statewide Playbook, which has left me inspired and impassioned about our journey to broaden OER offerings and uphold our dedication to this cause. Among the treasure trove of modules, I discovered some absolute gems that have left an indelible mark on my enthusiasm.

Module 1.1: What is Open Education?

This module struck a chord with me. I firmly believe that it is our responsibility to continuously elucidate the significance of OER to all stakeholders. I might be biased, but my devotion lies in the success of every single student enrolled in higher education. With this in mind, the compelling narrative presented in this module serves as an indispensable tool in perpetuating the story of what OER truly stands for. It is never enough. Furthermore, the research findings showcased therein are vital in demonstrating the effectiveness and impact of these valuable resources to our stakeholders.

Module 1.2: Open Education in Texas

This will prove to be an invaluable resource for our institution. It has provided me with profound insights into an area that holds immense potential for our growth and success. Specifically, the section that delved into "Course Marking Requirements" as outlined in TEC, Section 51.452, caught my attention. The graphic below indicates how we can mark these courses within our banner system, and I am looking forward to implenting this at our instutiton with our expanded courses in the Fall of 2023.

Module 2.2 Understanding the Landscape, Finding Champions, and Setting Goals

As we forge ahead with our mission to expand OER Course Offerings, the pivotal question presented in this module becomes the incredibly important. "How does your campus collect data to assess the effectiveness and impact of OER?" This question is not merely a curiosity; it is the cornerstone of our growth initiative, and we must embark on a study in the Fall to ensure we follow through on this essential aspect.

Module 2.2: Building an Institutional Infrastructure

Empowering leaders and fostering champions through well-designed training programs is the key to Open Educational Resources' success at our institution and beyond. I am convinced that investing in this aspect will lead to transformative outcomes.

Module 3.1: Building a Culture of Open

This module strikes a resounding chord with our campus. A cultural shift is an absolute necessity, and I am passionate about being invovled in this change. I believe that hosting an OER Summit at Laredo College for our faculty will serve as a powerful platform to showcase our accomplishments, ongoing efforts, and enlighten faculty on the seamless adoption of OER.

Module 3.2: Sustained Campus Advocacy

This segment is vital to our triumph, and I was particularly captivated by the strategies on tailoring our message to garner support from diverse audiences. Effective advocacy will be the linchpin of our success, and I believe that we are ready to take on this challenge with fervor.

Module 3.3: Funding Strategies

Maintaining repositories and incentivizing early adopters are critical to our journey, and securing resources is paramount. The recent acquisition of THECB Grant for our institution is a testament to the progress we've made, and it will propel us towards expanding OER into new territories.

-----

I am beyond passionate about our institution's dedication to Open Educational Resources. Each module in the OER Texas Statewide Playbook has ignited a fire within me, and I am committed to be involved in this cause with unwavering determination. Together, let us continue on this transformative path, redefining the future of education and making a profound impact on the lives of countless students. I believe that our passion for student success will be the driving force that ensures OER becomes one of the cornerstones of our educational landscape

Good morning!  I am new to my institution, but have some experience with starting the OER process at my previous Texas based community college.  I am looking forward to learning more via the playbook, which was a very valuable document to read beforehand!

I think clearly moduule 1.1 is a basis of knowledge folks at our institution will need, if they don't already have that.  I think given the scale of our operations as a larger instution the following will be paramount to our process:

  • Module 2.2 Building an Institutional Infrastructure
  • Module 2.3 Developing Policies, Guidelines, and Resolutions in Support of OER
  • Module 3.2 Sustained Campus Advocacy

Having a strong infrascture that is supported by well develop policies etc. that support OER will be very important.  Then sustaining campus advocacy to maintain momentum will be necessary as a phase 2.

Good morning!

As the person leading the efforts of OER at Laredo College, I am really interested in learning more about the following outcomes:

Working Toward a Sustainable OER Future Unit Introduction

Module 3.1:  Building a Culture of Open

Module 3.2:  Sustained Campus Advocacy

Module 3.3:  Funding Strategies

For this initiative to be successful at our College, building a Culture of Open is perhaps the most important component for me.

Thank you!
