Mentor Tech, also known as the Lauro Cavazos and Ophelia Powell-Malone Mentorship …
Mentor Tech, also known as the Lauro Cavazos and Ophelia Powell-Malone Mentorship Program ( MT), supports undergraduate and graduate students’ successful transition and continuation in college through mentoring relationships by pairing protégés (students) with university staff, faculty, and graduate students (mentors). Through these relationships, students gain university insight, personal & academic support networks, and professional development. Founded in 2002 and named after Dr. Lauro Cavazos and Ophelia Powell-Malone, Mentor Tech, was originally established to meet the mentoring needs of minoritized students, today, the program continues to serve the specific needs of first-generation, minoritized, and/or marginalized students. Mentor Tech intends for students to expand their network of support at Texas Tech by engaging with a faculty, staff, or graduate student mentor. Furthermore, the protégé and mentor work together to create a plan of action for the student's college journey based on their goals and aspirations.

The STEP Learning Assistants (LAs) Program in the Teaching, Learning & Professional …
The STEP Learning Assistants (LAs) Program in the Teaching, Learning & Professional Development Center (TLPDC) began in Fall 2019 and was adapted for remote instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic. LAs returned to face to face classrooms in Spring of 2022. As of May 2022, the STEP Program had 67 LAs across six STEM course sections, in three departments involving approximately 1500 students at TTU. Learning Assistants offer a student persistence/retention strategy that complements other resources on campus. LAs attend the course and are directed by Instructors of Record during applied problem-solving portions of the class. They provide real-time, hands-on learning assistance for enrolled students. The LAs are provided pedagogical training and are supervised by the TLPDC at Texas Tech University. Learning Assistants have been shown to increase student persistence by lowering DFW rates among all LA-course enrolled students (Loes, Saichaie & Pascarella, 2017), as well as a reduction in DFW rates for underrepresented groups (Alzen, Langdon, Otero 2017). Additional research shows improved outcomes for the LAs themselves, as compared to their non-LA peers (Otero 2015). The STEP LA Program continues to grow in popularity among students, faculty and administration at Texas Tech University.

The TECHniques Center is the only program of its kind in Texas …
The TECHniques Center is the only program of its kind in Texas and one of only five in the entire nation. A fee-based program, we provide supplemental academic support services through one-on-one, regularly scheduled tutoring and academic counseling for students diagnosed with a specific learning disability, ADD/ADHD, and/or autism spectrum disorders. We individually match students and tutors to provide excellent academic support and accountability. In addition, tutors receive extensive training that leads to their tutor certification through the College Reading and Learning Association. The goal of the program is to help students build independent learning and self-advocacy skills so they can meet their educational goals. To achieve this success, the majority of our students will meet with their tutor five hours per week. This is typically scheduled as one hour per day during operating hours. Students will also meet with their Academic Counselor once per week for 30 minutes. This level of contact helps with content acquisition, accountability, planning, prioritizing, and time management.

Honors College students have the unique advantage of experiencing an intellectually and socially vibrant environment while having access to the vast resources of a major research university at Texas Tech. Honors College students simultaneously benefit from being with others of the same intellectual preparation and commitment while enjoying the advantages of a university environment actively engaged in exploring all areas of human interest and concern.
All students who are admitted to Texas Tech and the Honors College also enroll in a disciplinary college and pursue one or more of the 150+ available majors and concentrations, including one major housed within the Honors College, Honors Sciences & the Humanities.
