    Description

The primary goal of psychology is to study and understand the behavior and mental processes of human beings. This field ultimately aims to benefit society by focusing on mental and behavioral health of the society. Psychological science can be described as a hub science due to its connection with natural sciences, medicine, social sciences humanities, Global Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies. This work was created as part of the Open Educational Resources (OER) Grant Program by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The project proposed an Open Educational Resources (OER) curriculum for the sections of Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 2301) that include Global Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies (GS/PAC) topics. The goal was to develop an OER material for a section of PSYC 2301, that will include the topic(s) of GS and PAC Studies so that the new sections of GS/PAC PSYC 2301 can be 100% OER and also to use that same OER for the general (non-GS/PAC) version of PSYC 2301.

Contents of this work have been adopted, adapted, and remixed from two existing open textbooks. The author’s own content was then added to reflect GS and PAC. The two existing open textbooks include:

Author & Project Leader: Dr. Sadaf Sajjad is a faculty member of the Psychology Department at Austin Community College. She has adopted and made inclusion of topics from GS and PAC studies into the existing textbook, Introduction to Psychology to fit the needs of the introductory course for psychology and aligned the course and program level objectives for PSYC 2301 with GS and PAC aspects at the ACC. Materials from the original sources have been combined, reorganized, and added by her, and checked by ACC Librarian, Carrie Gits for licensing and permissions.
