Description

Overview:
Incorporation of OER into courses entails varying degrees of complexity and coordination. Specific courses and sequences, audiences, technology/support requirements, and decision-making parameters all contribute to the differences in adoption and usage processes. While extensive resources and tools have been developed to make the communication and dissemination process clear, institution- and department-based circumstances are the greatest influencers in OER adoption processes. This workshop will focus on key adoption and usage determinants, and how OER creators and advocates may communicate about and distribute offerings in order to provide the most useful information for adopters. We will convey outcomes from recent large-scale adoption survey data, as well as anecdotal responses and cases. Outcomes will include suggestions for OER development methods, distribution channels, and descriptions that may lead to wider and more effective usage.
