Description

Overview:
These resources are discussion post prompts designed for use in online classes or for class discussions. Each focuses on a topic from a specific chapter in the OpenStax US History textbook beginning with chapter 17. As such, all topics and themes are designed for the second half of the US History survey course. Each prompt is designed to center on a specific topic from each chapter and then connect it to the context of a theme or idea in modern or contemporary times. In this way history is taught so students can understand that it is relevant to their own lives, rather than merely a series of events surviving in their own insulated past.

Utility of Materials Designed to Support Teaching: Superior (3)

What is presented here is the end of the story. Each discussion prompts is the end. Now what the instructor needs to do is to lead his/her students along the path of discovery until they are more than just merely capable of addressing the finely honed discussion prompts.

Opportunities for Deeper Learning: Superior (3)

This is akin to low-hanging fruit. What will develop from using this resource to its full potential are students who are along the path of thinking critically, metacognitive, and have deeper team work and communication skills because I for one have put my students into teams to address these thoughtful, insightful discussion prompts. #CoreElements23 #FacultyReviewed

Quality of Explanation of the Subject Matter: Superior (3)

Authors developed superior questions that demonstrate a thorough understanding of the subject matter, which can only be translated to the students in a like fashion. #CoreElements23 #FacultyReviewed
