Prompt: Please share the following:
- What is one exciting thing that you are predicting will happen as part of your project?
- Who do you predict you'll work with along the way? (This could be from this session or someone else entirely!)
- What is one thing you predict will slow you down and how will you try to be prepared to handle that?
1. Students will benefit from the OER and hopefully enjoy the course.
2. Our library and instructional designers
3. Other responsibilities/finding time to complete the project.
So great to hear you're creating OER content for your students! I'm sure they'll benefit from the accessible content you'll be providing. I'm also curious as to how instructional designers at your institution have been helping you with OER.
1. More Professors at my institution will move to this OER vs. the required text. They do have a choice!
2. There are two professors I work with that once used OER but stopped due to lack of support in keeping it updated. I know they will assist because, like me, they are tired of changing books every other year.
3. The only things to slow me down are my class schedule and my grandkids, since they only need me when I am in my home office. (But I love it!)
What is one exciting thing that you are predicting will happen as part of your project?
I believe the content in this professional development class will have an impact on our Start Here modules that will decrease student stress in finding and using the OER content. That will impact student success.
Who do you predict you'll work with along the way? (This could be from this session or someone else entirely!)
I hope to receive feedback from peers in this group. In addition, the college librarians will be great reviewers and possibly collaborators.
What is one thing you predict will slow you down and how will you try to be prepared to handle that?
Roadblocks create an excuse for procrastination. Today's session offered a second chance to see the tool usage and that was a big help. In addition, the interaction of participants in the breakout room helped me to see how to add some of my content in a logical manner. Now that I understand this part, I don't think progress will be as slow now.
1.I predict that the skills that I use to do my project will help me gain insight into building an effective OER resource.
2. I pedict that the knowledge and skills learnt will help me remix a course/text on the OER platfom to build a lab manual using OER resources.
3. I think the time needed to curate, remix and create the OER resource will be my biggest hurdle. I plan to colloborate with other colleagues twhich will not only speed up the process but also bring in their knowledge and expertise.
My hope is that my organization can begin to provide CEU options using OER.
I made a connection with Brittany and Jessica. I hope to continue to grow and learn with them.
I am still unsure how to take this resource and incorporate it into a learning platfrom (Google Classroom, Blackboard, Brightspace by D2L, etc.). I hope to learn from Jessica as she seems to be very comfortable with this procedure.
1. I predict that these skills will help me in creating an innovative, engaging, and effective learning experience for my students.
2. I am collaborating with a colleague, and I predict we will reach out to an Instructional Designer at our college.
3. I predict that my workload and life responsibilities could slow me down, but I will handle it by setting aside time with a timeline to accomplish my goal.
1. That the change being made will come to fruition.
2. Possibly authors that created the OER's I either implement in my course or remixed. Also, co-workers who have participated in these sessions.
3. Upcoming workload of full time job and teaching part time.
1. I am predicting (hoping) that more professors in my discipline will use OER.
2. I am predicting that I will work closely with our librarians.
3. I sometimes fall down "rabbit holes" when I am researching a topic. I need to give myself a cut-off date for finding resources and stick to it in order to give myself ample time to remix the resource.
I think our department is going to have a more cohesive array of locally produced, ILO-aligned OER materials to choose from -- we're going to have something that looks more like a library and less like a patchwork of things.
I will be coordinating rollout with dept. leadership, and coordinating ENGL 1302 offerings with one of our summer training cohort members.
People have limited time and attention at the beginning of the semester. I'm trying to book some space in the first
department meeting agenda in August so we can present the new materials to everyone.
Hi, everyone!
Here's my response:
Thanks, everyone! I wish you all the best of luck on your projects!
Best,
Jessica
1. One exciting thing that will happen due to this initiative is improved awareness and knowledge of the ethical use of AI among educators and students. This can lead to more responsible integration of AI across multiple academic areas and encourage critical thinking abilities in students.
I'll be working with a wide variety of interested parties as you go forward. Educators, AI experts, curriculum developers, instructional designers, and administrators passionate about ethical AI education may be included. Collaborating with this broad group will bring together different perspectives, expertise, and experiences to develop a comprehensive Faculty Learning Series.
3. The availability of relevant and up-to-date resources on the ethical use of AI may be a bottleneck. To prepare for this problem, form alliances with organizations or institutions specializing in AI ethics, or work with AI researchers and specialists. By leveraging existing resources and knowledge, I can ensure that my initiative is up to date and meets the most recent ethical considerations in AI teaching.
I am excited to see the material I fins, and to develop ways to think about increasing student engagement and knowledge creation.
I might work with one of my coworkers to develop more open pedagogy grounded activities!
Other work that needs to be completed, or pops up, while I work on this project. But I have set aside time blocks on my calendar to tackle larger portions of this project
This project will set the stage for updating our INRW Canvas course shells to include various OER materials that promote deeper student learning.
I expect to work with my colleagues in the INRW department to revamp the course shells with the assistance of our DE-designated librarian and our ID department.
I believe the one thing that will take the longest is locating quality material from multiple sources that will engage our students and will be agreed upon by all who help update the course shells.
1. What is one exciting thing that you are predicting will happen as part of your project?
2. Who do you predict you'll work with along the way? (This could be from this session or someone else entirely!)
3. What is one thing you predict will slow you down and how will you try to be prepared to handle that?
1. One exciting thing would be team collaboration with my colleagues as part of the project.
2. The "who" would be my colleagues and me
3. My apprehension is trying to complete the project while working to staff fall courses
That my students will be able to access the material easier and digest the course better.
I see working with acouple of the other professors as we try to align the courses.
My inexperience with OER will slow me down as well as being bnew to my campus.
1. Students will be benefitted!
2. Instructional designer
3. I was confused and worried that I would not complete it because of other projects going on.
I agree, Soma. Students will truly benefit from out OER work.
1. Access for all participants to the same material.
2. My faculty who teach the class
3. Getting the files ready and other creators. Create content in batches. Let faculty create the activities.
1) Engaging in this project will provide me valuable hands-on experience in the realm of Open Educational Resources (OER) in Texas. This experience will enable me to guide my colleagues toward utilizing OER and empower me to assist them throughout the remixing process.
2) I anticipate primarily working independently on this endeavor due to a limited and unpredictable time availability for this project.
3) The primary obstacle I foresee is dedicating sufficient time to identify suitable resources and curate content effectively. This task presents the most significant challenge in this project.
And I hope that more of our colleagues will feel inspired to participate in the OER journey.
What is one exciting thing that you are predicting will happen as part of your project?
One exciting thing that I am predicting will happen as part of my project is that I will be able to connect with other people who are passionate about open educational resources (OER). I am looking forward to learning from others and sharing my own knowledge and experiences. I believe that by working together, we can make a real difference in the world of education.
Who do you predict you'll work with along the way? (This could be from this session or someone entirely!)
I predict that I will work with a variety of people along the way, including teachers, students, researchers, and policymakers. I am particularly interested in working with teachers who are already using OER in their classrooms. I believe that they can provide me with valuable insights and advice.
What is one thing you predict will slow you down and how will you try to be prepared to handle that?
One thing that I predict will slow me down is the need to learn about different OER platforms and resources. There are a lot of different options out there, and it will take some time to figure out which ones are the best fit for my project. I plan to do my research ahead of time and to reach out to experts for help.
I am also aware that there may be some resistance to the use of OER from some stakeholders. I plan to address this by educating people about the benefits of OER and by working with them to find ways to overcome their concerns.
I am confident that I can overcome these challenges and that my project will be a success. I am excited to get started and to see what the future holds!
As part of this project, I would have started working on a passion project - enabling students study. I would like to work with educational psychologists to create a series to enable students to understand their learning styles and use that to plan effectie study strategies. Work with attributes (very important) will be slower initially.
1. Some instructors will adopt and pilot the OER course.
2. Three colleagues who are on the Statistics OER sub-committee.
3. Paperwork.
1. I predict that I will create and use OER materials more frequently.
2. I predict that I'll work with some colleagues at my institution who are also interested in OER.
3. I predict that obligations during the regular academic year will slow me down. I will carve out a weekly time to keep working on OER.
1. Increase number of students enrolling in a Geology course for lab science core credit (as opposed to shopping other STEM offerings...need to increase Earth and Space Science Literacy! And increase Persons with Disabilities access to Geosciences, overall.
2. Colleagues with recognized curricular resources shared through the Teach the Earth portal supported by the National Association for Geoscience Teachers and/or SERC Carleton, as well as developed through National Science Foundation resources or Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
3. Slow down by making content components disability accessible because many resources (even recently developed) do not do best practices in terms of accessibility features or considering the lens of Universal Design.
1. What is one exciting thing that you are predicting will happen as part of your project?
OER will assist in the cost of a course for the student.
2. Who do you predict you'll work with along the way? (This could be from this session or someone else entirely!)
There are faculty that I currenlty work with that are interested in using OER.
3. What is one thing you predict will slow you down and how will you try to be prepared to handle that?
Planning OER is big undertaking. Of course, the time factor. I will work on implementing a structured schedule and priortize tasks based on their urgency and importance.
1. Prediction: Open peers eyes on OER.
2. Librarian, Peers at work, maybe a member of group here
3. Slow me down - demands of work , I work with deadlines well
1. That I will actually have an assignment already created for my fall 2023 classes!
2. Colleagues in my department - many of whom are participating in this series :)
3. I can only pick one? :D Licensing. I think I will be overly cautious and double checking the resources I am choosing.
1. Unfortunately, there were emergency circumstances that delayed my uploading, so my hope is that my items are included and count as completion of the program.
2. I was fortunate to work with several individuals on a different template, and exchanged contact information for further collaboration. My college also created a new OER workgroup.
3. Life. I didn't but I tried.
1) A new textbook will be created
2) My new Professor so we can collaborate
3) No OER content to remix. I will have to create material from scratch.
I predict that I will get a good, accessible resource I can use in my classes. I have been working on overhauling my non-majors classes, and this will be a good start.
I don't really predict that I will be working with anyone on this particular project. I may have to get some help from our wonderful instructional designers at MCC.
I predict (and I was right) that my other responsibilities this summer would slow me down. I just had to carve out some time to complete this project.
