Prompt: Please share the following:
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why?
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project?
What question are you pondering regarding your project?
1. I changed my mind. I will do the Faculty Learning Series template :)
2. I liked the accessibility tool. I am eager to explore that more.
3. I appreciated Joanna recommending that we take some time to think. I am unsure at this moment what to do regarding my project and hope to have a clearer inspiration after our Thursday meeting.
Hi, everyone!
For my project, I'm planning to use the Course Redesign template. However, I have a colleague who's also part of anOER cohort with me in my department, and I hope to share the Developing Ancillaries template with her. It seems like a great resource for some work we hope to do with our corequisite English courses.
For my skill, I want to focus on remixing and learning more about licensing. I loved the accessibility check tools, though! Very useful!
As far as questions go, I really want to know more about copyright and licensing. I do have a good working relationship with the librarians on staff at my institutions, as well as our instructional design support staff who teach courses on copyright. It's a hairy subject, I agree, but important I think for the kind of impact on student success we hope to have at our institution.
Me too I am interested in the licensing component and the requirements. I wonder at your instiution does the instutution get copyrights for material developed at your instiution or do you individually?
1. I have chosen the Redesigning a Course templata; but I'm not sure I understand it. It seems to have a final product of a syllabus. I was planning to curate materials for a course.
2. Licensing
3. How do I use the oertx repository as a place to house usable materials (or do I just create a guide here, and then separately create and share a Canvas course directly with colleagues)?
I think template 1, becasue i am redsigning my course for this Semester anyway so why not.
Discoverability and remixing
Where do i start!!
I will use the Course Redesign Template and plan to explore and apply all of the discussed OER skills, such as discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, and accessibility. I do wonder, however, whether I will be able to find all of the resources I need/want via OER.
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why?
I will use the Professional Development template. Providing PD is one of my roles here. The template is very robust.
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project?
All of the above.
What question are you pondering regarding your project?
content items - What resources would be best/most helpful to include for a PD piece?
1. I will use template 1 as it seems most relevant to my interest and needs.
2. I would like to explore the skills of remixing and accessibility.
3. I am wondering if the remixing involves a particular course or something that we develop.
I chose the Template for Designing Ancillaries for my project. This will benefit the OER course I developed.
I will explore Remixing.
No questions at the moment. Thank you.
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why? I'm going to use Template #2, Designing Ancillaries. I won't be remixing any materials, but instead using materials I've already written and designed.
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project? I'm most interested in discoverability, licensing, and accessibility.
What question are you pondering regarding your project? How to best present materials so that others can view and use easily.
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why?
Course redesign. I wanted to use a course that worked with belonginess.
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project?
Remixing.
What question are you pondering regarding your project?
Where do we submit the final product?
Hi Stacy,
I had a similar plan as yours. I'm interested in course design, and I'm also wondering about the project. Thanks for sharing!
1. I will be using the "Redesign a Course" template to remix an existing OER that has not been updated in over 7 years. Currently the OER Commons only shows one Texas Government OER and I would love to switch to using an OER vs. the current required text.
2. I will be exploring the licensing tips and remixing as I work on my project.
3. My only question is will I be able to complete the portions of the course that need updating by the end date. I started working on this project a month ago, so I should be able to at least update two to three chapters.
1. I plan on using the Course Redesign template.
2. Remixing and the accessibility tool
3. I am unsure of where to start.
1. Template # 1, most likely. It clearly outlines a hypothetical course and is easy to follow.
2. Discoverability, remixing, and accessibility. I seem to be stumped by "remixing". Mixing of what?
3. I seem to be stumped by "remixing." Mixing of what? I also need clearer directions about seeking out an OER for the project. (Maybe I am overthinking it).
1. I will use tempate #1, as I am interested in redesigning my course.
2. Accessibility.
3. Where do I start?
I am leaning toward template #2 at the moment.
With respect to Session 1, I want to think more about this idea of remixing. I am not yet sure about that logistic and really if interested in doing through this platform or utilize "in the spirit of" within the STC CMS. Also Blackboard Ultra is packaged with Ally. I really use Ally and not sure if this platform has an equivalent Alternative Format function that is as robust.
In terms of deciding to use this OERTX platform, I want to know more about its true accessibility with respect to screen reader access, for instance. I want much more for my users than minimal ADA Compliance or minimal WCAG. I want to design to knock down barriers and disrupt ableism.
1. I have chosen the course redesign template.
2. I will explore the accessibility skill.
3. No questions at this time but I want to make sure that all resources in the course are accessible to all users.
1. Currently, I am interesting in Templates 1-3, though am learning towards 2. I've begun the basic brainstorming and concepts for the templates, and will make a final decision after/during the second session.
2. Accessibilty is a skill I'd like to explore. I enjoy creating resources, but need to make sure that they meet both basic and advance accessibility measures.
3. I am concerned about the depth of the project itself as well as being in a position to share materials or resources before they or I am ready, comfortable, or willing.
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why?
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project?
What question are you pondering regarding your project?
Oh boy...where to begin. Before this series began I've been thinking about my project. I wanted to do something on Information Literacy (IL). At this moment there are 124 items in OERTX that cover the subject. So remixing one looks promising. Then questions came to me, "What's at the heart of IL? How to combat a world full of miss-information, fake news, and alternative facts? What skills do today's learners need to be informed members of society?" Our library got a new book called Where research begins: choosing a research project that matters to you (and the world) by Thomas S. Mullaney and Christopher Rea. Q180.55.M4 $b M85 2022. And OERTX has about 105 items on research skills. Now I just need to to pick a template.
I think the course redesign would be the best option for me.
I am guessing a remix? I am not certain yet.
I don't know where to start. Still working on that.
I am considering working on the innovative concept planning project. I want to introduce a module for effective learning in STEM. I plan to use discoverability and remixing in this template. And I am hoping to gain more defined knowledge from the meeting on Thursday.
1. I am going to use the course redesign. I am always looking to revamp and make my courses accessible.
2. Ideally- all of the above.
3. How do I begin to create an accessible and engaging course? How do I find materials that are useable and interesting?
Hi Serena!
I am interested in learning more about finding materials that are useable and interesting.
1. I have chosen the ancillaries template because I am looking to add supporting materials.
2. I hope to explore all of the above.
3. I am pondering where exactly to start.
Hi, Amanda! I thought I'd do ancillaries template also.
1. I can't find the template, so I have not chosen a templated at this time
2.I would like to discover the discoverability
3. Not sure what kinds of project I would like to do
I have chosen template one (Course Redesign). I am exploring discoverability. The question I am pondering is, from an accessibility standpoint, when re-mixing multiple resources what is the best way to include the attributions?
I have chosen the Designing Ancillaries template because I want to work on creating/redesigning some of the lectures for my non-majors biology courses.
I will be exploring accessibility more for my project. I just completed the Accessibility in OER - IHE Spring 2023 training, and I want to continue learning more about making materials accessible.
I do have some questions about the CC BY SA license. While it is not directly related to the project I am working on for this course, it does have relevance to some of the resources I would like to use for at least one of the lab exercises I want to develop.
1. Innovative Project + Course Redesign- I want to create a space for hands-on labs among multiple courses, why- for the faculty team is more aligned with presenting similar topics and students can access similar OER to improve accessibility and inclusion?
2. Remixing templates, and licensing tips for outside sources I want to link to.
3. What mid types of funding would support this- I have seen NSF and Instututional Teaching Funds but was curious what are mid-level sources and amounts?
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why? Template #2- designing ancillaries
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project? licensing in regards to how remixing applies
What question are you pondering regarding your project? Not exactly sure how to use the template and what materials can/should be linked in this platform? i.e. If I recommend a website, do I include a link or just materials information/copyright?
1. I've chosen the course redesign. I'm redesigning my World Civilizations courses for Fall 2023 anyway, so this will give me some good practice and feedback on it.
2. I'm interested in discoverability.
3. I do not know where to start.
Greetings,
I am still trying to figure out which templates would best align with my current workspace. I am leaning toward the course redesign template. Everything from today's lesson was very beneficial. I was messaging my boss throughout the presentation on ideas for polishing our OER policies and procedures. I am wondering which template would be best suited for my team.
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why?
I'm going to create some ancilliary materials to go with the OER textbooks I've created for British Literature. I think that this project can dovetail with some campus-level ILO alignment/key assignment work I'm doing as part of our academic assessment team: Creating easily shareable key assignment activities can be part of this. (And what's more shareable than OER?)
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project?
Probably remix. I'd like to see what's already out there for adaptation. The best teachers are straight-up thieves.
What question are you pondering regarding your project?
I'm basically trying to think of all the ways in which we can use OER to enhance/enable a more meaningful campuswide assessment culture -- while at the same time cranking out quality materials that are shareable outside the institution as well.
I'm interested in Course Redesign because it's a topic that seems interesting to me.
Remixing
Still not sure how to get started and all the work it entails.
The idea about Remix is great. I'm going to try that later.
Remix is awesome!
I have chosen the OER Advanced Skills Template #1 - Redesigning a Course! I am developing a Open Mythology Course as a way to facilitate the production of instuctional content to illustrate to Faculty and Staff the OER opportunities available to them!
I will likely explore a comboniation of the skills listed to generate the material for my project! I would like to consolidate resources from a variety of areas, with different license types.
I am wondering what is the best way to go about developing the course - finding resources first or building a frame of what to look for first. I think I might work on themin parallel.
1. My template will be the faculty professional development pathway. Although we have been very active with OER development, the need for quality attribution is present. This project will let me finalize options to use for the fall back to school sessions.
2. Licensing will be my first focus. Of course, this will include attribution.
3. Would simple documents with minimal branding or colors be the best to submit?
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why? I would like to use the course redesign template.
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project? I will explore more on remixing.
What question are you pondering regarding your project? None at this time. Thank you!
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why?
I did template #1 because I was doing only the syllabus for now.
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project?
I'm going to explore accessibility.
What question are you pondering regarding your project?
How can I search for some OER syllabi?
1. I have chosen Template #2--Designing Ancillaries for my Advanced Skills Project.
2. For my skills, I want to focus more on remixing and licensing, but I also liked the accessibility tool, to explore further for this project.
3. I don't have any questions yet, but as I work on this project, I'm sure some will arise.
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why?
I am going to use Template 2 - Designing Ancillaries.
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project?
I will and keep exploring all 3 - discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility.
What question are you pondering regarding your project?
The area of study that I am involve the most is Social Work. The attribution of work is something that I am pondering, how to do it correctly.
Awesome that you are exploring all 3 skills!
I have chosen the Innovative Concept Template. My goal is to provide students with a framework for studying Mathematics effectively. I want to work more on Discoverability. What to include in part 3 and how much detail to include are questions I am pondering on.
1. Template #2: Ancillaries Template
2. Licensing tips and accessibility. are two focuses.
3. None at this point.
Which template have you chosen for your Advanced Skills Project and why? Course Redesign Template
Which skill from today (discoverability, licensing tips, remixing, accessibility) will you explore more for your project? remixing
What question are you pondering regarding your project? The compatibility needed fo remixing
OER Advanced Skills Template #1 - Redesigning a Course
Remixing but as there is no other content, create a new textbook for the course
How do I effectively create a OER product? This is my first view of the topic as a relatively new Professor.
