Explore complex, multi-actor systems in which one factor influences all other factors. For instance, how innovative energy technologies merge into the existing energy system, or how new transport possibilities impact current processes. Armed with this information, learn to decide whether they should be further developed, consider possible negative results and weigh associated costs.
There are multiple ways to make decisions, but one way proven to be very useful is the analytical approach – a methodology for making the problem explicit and rationalising the different potential solutions. In short: analysis based support of decision making, design and implementation of solutions.
Creative Problem Solving and Decision Making as a course teaches you this method.

The course "Fluid Flow, Heat and Mass Transfer," course number ta3220, is third-year BSc course in the program of Applied Earth Sciences at Delft University of Technology. Students in this class have already taken a course in "Transport Phenomena" in the second year, and "Fluid Flow Heat and Mass Transfer" is designed as a follow-up to that class, with an emphasis on topics of importance in applied earth sciences, and in particular to Petroleum Engineering, groundwater flow and mining. In practice, however I start over again with first principles with this class, because the initial concepts of the shell balance are difficult for students to grasp and can always use a second time through. The course covers simple fluid mechanics problems (rectilinear flow) using shell balances, for Newtonian and power-law fluids and Bingham plastics. Turbulence for Newtonian fluids is covered in the context of friction factors for flow in pipes, flow around spheres and flow in packed beds.

Is Hyperloop really worth the hype? Is this passenger pod levitating in a vacuum tube a viable alternative to curb the environmental impact of current modes of transport?
This revolutionary and more sustainable mode of transportation for passengers or freight can reach speeds of over 1000 kilometers per hour (600mph), decreasing travel time significantly. For example, one could go from Amsterdam to Paris in 30 minutes instead of 4 hours, or from New York to Washington in 25 minutes instead of 3 hours.
Have you ever wondered how levitation works? How would passengers feel? What will infrastructure costs be? Is the Hyperloop concept technically and commercially viable?
Regardless of your background, this course will teach you how this technology works and will prove why it is worth investing in. Key topics include the core concepts behind Hyperloop, current developments in the technology, the future solutions Hyperloop will offer and the problems it faces.
Through discussions with fellow participants and critical thinking you will form your own vision and develop your own ideas about this exciting new technology and its future.
This course is for anyone interested in the Hyperloop concept. For those seeking more in-depth knowledge, or wanting to pursue a career or conduct research in this field, the course provides additional resources.
This course has been designed by the Delft Hyperloop Dream Team, winners of the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition in 2017 and runners up in 2018. This award-winning team consists of TU Delft students, international experts and partner companies who will also share their expertise.

The advent of electronics has had a profound impact on our lives and impacted nearly every product that we use either directly or indirectly. Without electronics, present day computers, cell phones, stereos, televisions, and the internet would not be possible. And of course, without computers and modern communications tools, society could not have made the huge strides in fields such as medicine, aerospace technologies, meteorology, transportation, agriculture, education, and many others. It is for these reasons that the invention of the transistor is considered as one of the most important technological advancements in history.

The discipline of geography bridges the social sciences with the physical sciences and can provide a framework for understanding our world. By studying geography, we can begin to understand the relationships and common factors that tie our human community together. The world is undergoing globalization on a massive scale as a result of the rapid transfer of information and technology and the growth of modes of transportation and communication. The more we understand our world, the better prepared we will be to address the issues that confront our future. There are many approaches to studying world geography. This textbook takes a regional approach and focuses on themes that illustrate the globalization process, which in turn assists us in better understanding our global community and its current affairs.

Infrastructures for energy, water, transport, information and communications services create the conditions for livability and economic development. They are the backbone of our society. Similar to our arteries and neural systems that sustain our human bodies, most people however take infrastructures for granted. That is, until they break down or service levels go down.
In many countries around the globe infrastructures are ageing. They require substantial investments to meet the challenges of increasing population, urbanization, resource scarcity, congestion, pollution, and so on. Infrastructures are vulnerable to extreme weather events, and therewith to climate change. Technological innovations, such as new technologies to harvest renewable energy, are one part of the solution. The other part comes from infrastructure restructuring. Market design and regulation, for example, have a high impact on the functioning and performance of infrastructures.
